Florida Atlantic Owls vs UCF Knights
One of the biggest stories of the 2017 college football season was the unbeaten run of the UCF Knights, a run that left them as self-proclaimed champions of college football. The argument against the Knights was that they would get killed by a good Power 5 team, but they then went out and beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl. You now have to wonder what they can possibly do for an encore in 2018. There were a lot of people who were more than a little skeptical when Lane Kiffin took over as head coach of the Owls, but you have to say that he has done a good job, including leading them to 11 wins last season. This should be a highly entertaining game to watch in Week 4.Texas A&M Aggies vs Alabama Crimson Tide
While the expectation is that the national champions will be back on top in the SEC West this season, it should be noted that there are a few potential slip-up games ahead of them this coming season. I would suggest that their Week 4 meeting with Texas A&M is one such game. The Aggies shelled out a lot of money to lure coach Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State, and when you are spending in the region of $75 million, you are expecting some immediate returns. Realistically, the Aggies are probably looking at 7 or 8 wins this year, but they are not going to be an easy team to put away.Stanford Cardinal vs Oregon Ducks
If we are being honest, the PAC 12 has been more than a little disappointing over the past few seasons but had a particularly down year in 2017. In total, 9 teams from the conference went to a bowl game, with only one managing a win. The Stanford Cardinal should once again be the best in the North Division, although there are signs that the Oregon Ducks are on the rise again.
TCU Horned Frogs vs Texas Longhorns
There is nothing quite like an in-state rivalry in college football, and it gets even bigger when that match-up is in Texas. This is a meeting that has been particularly one-sided over the past few seasons, with the Horned Frogs winning each of the last 4 games, with 3 of them in blowout fashion. Last season, TCU beat Texas 24-7, the closest score in quite some time, which may well have signaled that the Longhorns and clawing their way back to respectability under new head coach Tom Herman. Let’s hope for an even closer game this year.
