As teams work towards winning their conference and making the playoffs, the goal is to build some early momentum that will eventually carry over to the bigger games that come later in the season. There are some who play a bit of a weaker schedule at the start of the year in order to create that momentum, but there is always the possibility that a poor performance against a lesser team can disrupt that flow.
The West Virginia Mountaineers won big in their season opener and have what looks to be a bit of an easier game in NCAA Football Week 2, at home to the Youngstown State Penguins. This one is not on the board for now, perhaps because it is viewed as a horribly one-sided affair that the Mountaineers should win going away. That was not the case, though, when these two teams hooked up a couple of years back, so this one might end up proving to be a little closer than most of us expect.
While Tennessee has a new coach and are in a rebuilding phase, you still cannot deny how good a win that was for the Mountaineers.
