Writer’s Tour de France Pick to Win it All

Pogacar Continues to Lead the Way

Last year, Tadej Pogacar let a late Tour de France slip from his grasps as Jonas Vingegaard won his second straight Tour.

This season, Pogacar is determined to not allow Vingegaard the chance to catch him.

In Stage 15, Pogacar excelled, winning the stage by 1 minute and 8 seconds over Vingegaard.

With Stage 16 approaching, cycling fans are eager to see if anyone can challenge the seemingly unstoppable Slovenian.

Evenepoel finished third behind Vingegaard by a minute and 43 seconds.

Pogacar’s victory over Vingegaard, and Vingegaard’s win over Evenepoel, sets up what has become one of the top rivalries in sports, Tadej Pogacar versus Jonas Vingegaard.

Pogacar Versus Vingegaard Rivalry Has Been the Tour de France Story for Two Years

Pogacar won back-to-back Tour de Frances in 2020 and 2021.

He was a heavy favorite in 2022.

But in 2022 it was all about Jonas Vingegaard, who not only won the Mountain classification but also the yellow jersey which goes to the general classification winner.

Vingegaard repeated his dominance last year.

Jonas has won 4 stages in three straight years: 2022, 2023, 2024.

This year, Pogacar is one hundred percent

Last year, Pogacar lost training time due to a wrist injury.

The injury showed up late at the Tour, which his fans believe is the reason he fell to Vingegaard.

This year, Pogacar didn’t lose much training time.

Tadej appears to be getting stronger.

Not only did he win Stage 15, but he also won Stage 14.

Oddsmakers Make Pogacar a -1200 Super Chalk

The oddsmakers like MyBookie believe Pogacar has the Tour de France in the bag.

Heading into the final six stages of the race, Tadej is a massive -1200 favorite.

Second choice Jonas Vingegaard is +800 while Remco Evenepoel is at +8000.

No other cyclist even has a remote shot of catching Pogacar.

Evenepoel doesn’t have much shot either unless Pogacar suffers a crash or some other unforeseen event.

It appears that Tadej Pogacar is on his way to victory.

If that is the case, the Tour de France will benefit from the Pogacar and Vingegaard rivalry for years to come.

Betting the 2024 Tour de France

As the Tour de France continues, one thing has become apparent, Tadej Pogacar is on a mission.

The Slovenian has a massive lead over Remco Evenepoel.

It’s still early in the event.

So Jonas Vingegaard, the current second place cyclist, can get it done.

ut based on how things have so far materialized, Pogacar looks unbeatable.

Check out current Tour de France standings for the coveted general classification yellow jersey, updated Tour de France odds, as well as insight into this year’s race.

Current Tour de France General Classification – Yellow Jersey

Pogacar Looks Unbeatable

Not counting Stage 8, which was happening at the time of this writing, Tadej Pogacar had a 33 minutes lead over Remco Evenepoel.

Pogacar had a sizable lead at around this time during the 2023 Tour de France.

We know what happened.

Jonas Vingegaard ended up catching Pogacar and winning the race.

Tadej knows he must keep his feet on the pedals so to speak to hold off Vingegaard.

Most Expect Vingegaard to Overtake Evenepoel

The expectation is that Vingegaard overtakes Evenepoel and then pushes Pogacar.

Remco has a lead over Jonas, but it’s only a minute and 15 seconds.

The lead isn’t close to being as solid as it should be, not when a cyclist like Vingegaard is in chase.

If Evenepoel manages to hold off Vingegaard to finish second, it would be a massive accomplishment given that Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar are the unquestioned two best cyclists in the world.

Primoz Roglic Remains Elite

A few days ago, Juan Ayuso was in fourth place.

Since then, Primoz Roglic, the former Jumbo-Visma cyclist, has made a serious move to climb into fourth.

Roglic, although his chances of overtaking Pogacar are almost nonexistent, remains elite.

Primoz is showing that although he’s suffered some setbacks, including one at the 2023 Tour de France, he can hang in the world’s most famous cycling event.

Less Than a Minute Separates Primoz Roglic and Juan Ayuso

Roglic has about a 40 seconds lead over Juan Ayuso.

The reason that’s significant is because Juan Ayuso, who is in fifth place, and Jao Almeida, who is in sixth place, ride for UAE Team Emirates, meaning they are on Tadej Pogacar’s squad.

So if Pogacar wins the yellow jersey, no doubt, it will be because Ayuso and Almeida have managed to keep Roglic, Vingegaard, and Evenepoel at bay.

Expect Ayuso and Almeida to push for a top five placing in their effort to help their teammate to the yellow jersey.

Jorgenson May Rise into the Top Five

The wild card for a top five finish is American Matteo Jorgenson.

A few days ago, Jorgenson was tied for tenth.

Right now, he’s in ninth place.

Matteo has the chance to be the U.S.’s next great cyclist, albeit without the help of performance enhancing drugs.

If Jorgenson does finish in the top five or better, a top three placing is possible behind Pogacar and Vingegaard, he’ll be on his way to cycling stardom.

Stay tuned for continuing coverage of the Tour de France and updates on the leader board.

2022 Tour de France Betting Update: Jungels Wins Stage 9, Pogacar Still Leading

Previous Betting News

July 11 was a day of rest for cyclists looking to keep wearing the yellow, green, and polka dot jerseys. Starting on Wednesday, Tadej Pogacar, Wout Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and the rest are back at it. Check out what happened at Stage 9, an update on which cyclists wear which jerseys, and information for Stage 10, Stage 11, Stage 12, and Stage 13.

Updated Tour de France Betting Info & Week Preview | Cycling Analysis

2022 Tour de France

When: July 1 – July 24
Where: Denmark & France
TV/Streaming: NBC Sports / Peacock

Jungels wins Stage 9 with breathtaking move

On Sunday, Bob Jungels made an incredible move to win Stage 9. With his Stage 9 win, Jungels moved into sixteenth place on the general classification yellow jersey board.

He jumped to seventeenth for the sprint classification, the green jersey. Jungels is second behind Simon Geschke for the polka dot jersey that goes to the best climber.

Pogacar continues to wear the yellow, Roglic has some hope, Thomas and Vingegaard are on Pogacar’s heels

Jungels raced great on Sunday. But the Luxembourg cyclist has almost zero shot of catching Tadej Pogacar. But Pogacar isn’t running away with it. Two cyclists especially appear capable of catching the yellow and white jersey wearing multiple Tour de France winner.

Shortly before the Tour de France began, odds on Geraint Thomas fell so far and so fast that he became an outright fourth choice behind Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, and Jonas Vingegaard to win the yellow jersey.

Geraint Thomas has raced fantastic pretty much from the first day. The former Tour de France winner is in third place, a minute and 17 seconds behind Pogacar.

Thomas said before the Tour began that he felt good heading into the race. Geraint won the 2018 Tour de France. No doubt, he has the skills to pressure Pogacar from Tuesday until the final event.

Tour de France Betting Heats Up: Who Will Wear the Yellow Jersey?hRoglic still has a shot. The second choice before the race began is in eleventh place. But Roglic is just 2 minutes and 52 seconds behind Pogacar. Primoz would have really step on the gas pedal to win.

However, Jumbo-Visma’s top cyclist has the ability to do just that. He can’t wait, though. He’s got to get going starting on Tuesday.

Second place belongs to Jonas Vingegaard. The Jumbo-Visma cyclist is proving his second-place finish last year wasn’t a fluke.

Vingegaard has become Jumbo-Visma’s top Tour de France cyclist. Jonas is 39 seconds behind Pogacar. With some luck, he can make that up this week.

Van Aert sports the green, and Geschke grabs the polka dot

Wout Van Aert continues to own the green jersey. Another Jumbo cyclist, Van Aert has an over 100 points lead, 284 to 149, over Fabio Jakobsen. It’s doubtful anybody catches Van Aert, the pre-race favorite to wear the green jersey.

Simon Geschke wears the polka dot. Geschke’s handle on the polka dot jersey is tenuous. The Leader has 19 points.

Stage 9 winner Bob Jungels sits in second with 18 points. Thibaut Pinot has 14 points. We’ll see how it works out, but it will be tough for Geschke to keep the polka dot shirt.

This Week’s Stages – Tuesday – Friday

Stage 10 – Tuesday, July 12 – Morzine Les Portes du Soleil Megève – Hilly
Stage 11 – Wednesday, July 13 – Albertville Col du Granon Serre Chevalier – Mountain
Stage 12 – Thursday, July 14 – Briançon Alpe d’Huez – Mountain
Stage 13 – Friday, July 15 – Le Bourg d’Oisans Saint-Étienne – Flat

We should expect Wout Van Aert to continue to sprint great. His hold on the green jersey won’t wane.

It will be interesting to see if Vingegaard or Thomas makes a move for the yellow jersey. Also, does Roglic have it in him to get into the top 10?

Enjoy this week’s Tour de France races and don’t forget to check out our Tour de France Friday blog.
