Which actress among Davis, Streep, Close, Chastain, and Streep have the inside track to the Best Actress Oscar?
This is an easy one. Viola Davis is one of the best actresses of all time. Nobody who has seen her as Analise Keating in How to Get Away With Murder can argue that fact. Davis is a lock to get a nomination while Close, Chastain and Streep aren’t.
That makes Viola the top choice to win the award. It also helps that she appears in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the late great Chad Bozeman’s last film. Chad’s passing has caused more and more Academy voters, rightfully so, to check out Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. As they contemplate awarding Bozeman, they’ll also notice how amazing Davis is in the movie.
Viola might be a lock to win the award in April. Make sure to take the better than decent +500 if you agree.
What underdog at +2000 odds or higher has the best shot of grabbing the Golden Eunuch?
The two locks to get nominated are Viola Davis in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Frances McDormand in Nomadland. The Searchlight Pictures film about modern day nomads who prefer to live as travelers with no health insurance and no debt, brings up serious questions about what it means to be free.
McDormand is great in it and she’ll no doubt get a nomination. Not bad for a +2200 choice.
Is there a +5000 or higher odds underdog that has a shot to win the Academy Award for Best Actress?
Margot Robbie gives a fantastic performance in Dreamland. The movie starring Robbie as a Depression Era bank robber has gotten fantastic pre-reviews. It releases in about one-hundred theatres on November 13 before a wider video-on-demand release.
Robbie is a respected actress who should get a lot of buzz for her performance. At +5000 we have to reach to find a viable contender. Margot could be it.
