Right now, entertainment handicappers can place bets on which network or streaming service picks up the 2022 Golden Globes telecast. NBC, if you didn’t know already, dumped the Globes due to various controversies. But although MyBookie has odds, the fact is that nobody knows if a 2022 Golden Globes ceremony will happen. Check out reasons why the Globes could end up on the award show dust heap so you can plan your bets against their Golden Globes odds.

Why did NBC cancel the 2022 Golden Globe awards?
Two members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) decided to resign from the Golden Globes board. The members, Diederik van Hoogstraten and Wenting Xu, cited “insulation, silence, fear of retribution, self-dealing, corruption and verbal abuse”, as the reasons for leaving.
After the members ditched the Golden Globes, Tom Cruise returned his three statutes. Cruise allowed his action to do the talking.
Now, everyone in Hollywood, and most of the world, is upset about the Golden Globes. Facing such backlash, NBC decided to cancel next year’s awards show.
Will any network want to pick up the awards telecast?
Based on MyBookie, the awards show may be going to CBS or NBC. Paramount+, which CBS owns, is at +200. CBS itself is at +400 while ABC, which airs the Academy Award Oscar telecast, is at +300.
ABC looks like a solid play. The American Broadcasting Company could use the Globes to bolster the Oscars. But neither the Oscars, nor the Globes, had a lot of people tune in this year.
Why would they when nobody went to the movies in 2020? There’s a chance no network or streaming service picks up the broadcast.
Do people even care about the Golden Globes?
Not really. Then again, nobody ever cared about the Golden Globes. It’s sort of their fault. The HFPA has made nominations and handed out golden statutes as if they had no clue about movies or television shows.
For example, in 2007 the group nominated Letters From Iwo Jima in the Best Foreign Language category even though Clint Eastwood, as American as it gets, directed the film and a U.S. production company created it.
A movie called Salmon Fishing in Yemen got multiple nominations in 2013. Ever heard of it? We haven’t either.
In 2016, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed Matt Damon a nomination for The Martian, a film where Damon’s character is stuck on the Red Planet in the Best Film Musical / Comedy category.
The Two Popes, a movie about, we think, a couple of popes, got nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama in 2020.
So, no. Nobody cares.
Bottom line: Will there be a 2022 Golden Globes?
Doubtful. The biggest problem the Globes has is with ass kissing. The organization has always depended on kissing the most ass. Then, after kissing ass, the folks whom they’ve ass kissed will turn around and kiss their ass.
Tom Cruise set the stage for no more ass kissing. So if Tom doesn’t care if you give him an award, who will? Probably nobody.
At this point, it’s difficult to think of a production team, thespian, director, or even catering crew that wants to be associated with the Golden Globes. So, what’s the point of having an awards show if nobody is there to accept the awards?
Again, it’s the HFPA’s fault. They should have remained the party awards show and encouraged things like Jack Nicholson’s pants left on mooning after he won for As Good As it Gets.
At least then, everyone knew the Globes were a joke. Now, everyone thinks they’re a sick joke.
