Jon Snow began the series as Ned Stark’s bastard son but Game of Thrones fans now know he’s the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark which means he’s a legitimate heir to the Iron Throne. In addition to that, Snow has also been the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch and the King in The North, making him the clear-cut prohibitive favorite to survive season 8.
Following Snow’s expected survival are Bran Stark and Daenerys Targaryen who are co-favorites to rule the Seven Kingdoms at +250.
Stark is the fourth child and second son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark and he survived ‘dying’ in season 7. Now, Stark looks like he’s got another great chance of surviving again. Daenerys Targaryen is a fearless leader and she has survived a ton of struggles and battles, s she could very well survive season 8.
Other contenders in the Game of Thrones betting odds include Arya Stark and The Night King at an identical +900, Tyrion Lannister at +1000 and Sansa Stark at +1300. Arya Stark executed Littlefinger in season 7 and could potentially take on his face and enter Westeros as Littlefinger without anyone knowing it’s her.
A pair of Australian researchers that are both affiliated with Macquarie University in Sydney, Reidar Lystad and Benjamin Brown found that the probability of a character dying within an hour of being introduced on screen was about 14 percent. Lystad and Brown also concluded that the probability of survival was worse for characters who were male and lowborn, had not switched allegiance and were featured more prominently in the series.
The pair have concluded that Lystad said Sansa and Arya Stark had better chances of survival compared with many other main characters since they’re highborn women who have changed allegiance. Lystad and Brown interpreted Sansa’s decision to marry Joffrey Baratheon and her return to Winterfell and Arya’s choice to train to serve the Many-Faced God as switching sides, but Lystad admitted many fans would argue Arya has always been loyal to House Stark.) The pair also concluded that Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow both also have great chances of surviving season 8 since Tyrion clearly rejected House Lannister, and the pair believe that Jon’s oath to the Night’s Watch as a change in allegiance.
As regards, to the first person dying in Season 8, the odds favor Arya Greyjoy to take the fall. In Season 7, it seemed she had died but apparently came out alive from her imminent death by getting her throat sliced. Plus, here history within the series gives her the likeliness to get blood shed first.

While Jon Snow is the prohibitive favorite, I’m thinking he’s going to suffer a shocking death that rules him out as a potentially survivor this season. Right now, my money is on either Bran Stark, Daenarys Targaryen and Arya Stark with the female Stark being my pick to survive season 8.
