Analysis:
Let’s be honest for a minute and admit that Lochte is one this year’s version of Dancing With the Stars for one reasons and one reason only. He’s going to bring viewers to the television for two reasons. Viewers will either want to see the polarizing swimmer fail miserably or witness a feel-good story about redemption.
Personally, I think Lochte will bomb out, both in the chase of the coveted Mirrorball Trophy and with the American public that simply hasn’t forgotten how Lochte embarrassed the nation by lying about being robbed by gunpoint when, in reality, it was his decision to trash a local gas station that got him into trouble.
Lochte is paired with two-time DWTS winner Cheryl Burke, who has not participated since season 19 but has eight other top-five finishes and is a fan favorite, for both, her dancing acumen – and her skimpy outfits.
Still, Lochte is facing an uphill battle to win DWTS 23 and I suspect many folks won’t vote for him no matter how well he does. Lochte’s transgressions weren’t that long and Americans aren’t nearly as forgiving as they once were. If you don’t believe me, just go ask a Donald Trump supporter. Now…that’s the truth!
