It is a very busy time in the world of eSports at the moment, which is a good thing for bettors when you consider that all the major leagues across the world are in a state of lockdown. The one thing that you may have noticed, if you are getting in on the eSports action, is that different leagues and regions very often have different rules, usually in the number of games played in a single match or in the playoff format. The Overwatch Contenders league is split across several different region, with a new competition starting each week for a month. There is a lot of money up for grabs, with the Contenders event in China now in the playoff stages of its 4th week. There are 4 teams left battling it out for the prize money, so let’s look at the matchups and how those teams got there along with their Overwatch Odds.
Overwatch Contenders CN May 20th Matches
Light Gaming Vs Bilibili Gaming
The Contenders series is split into 4 different groups of 3 teams. Light Gaming landed in Group D in Week 4 and made it look very easy indeed, beating the other two teams in the league by a score of 3-0 in the best of 5 series. They finally dropped a game in the quarterfinals against FFF Gaming, but still came away with a 3-1 win to move into this semi-final matchup. That was as far as Light Gaming got in Week 1, losing to the eventual winners, Team CC in the semis. They cruised through the group stage in Week 2, but they went out in the opening round of the playoffs, with Team CC once again the team that took them down. It was another 1st round exit in Week 3.
Much like their opponent here, Bilibili Gaming made the group stage look very easy in Week 4, winning both games without dropping a match. It was more of the same in the playoffs, as they took down Flag Gaming with a 3-0 win. Bilibili made it to the final in Week 1, but they were blown out by team CC. They made the playoffs again in Week 2, but they fell at the first hurdle there. They also went down in the opening round in Week 3.
This looks to be an evenly matched affair, but I am giving the nod to Bilibili Gaming.
The One Winner Vs Team CC
The One Winner made it into the playoffs by winning their division, winning both games by a combined score of 6-2. They made things look much easier in the quarterfinals, winning 3-0 against LTP to set up this match. That’s further than they made it in Week 1, losing in the opening round of the playoffs. They made it all the way to the final in Week 2, but they lost 3-1 to Team CC. It was a quarterfinal exit in Week 3 for The One Winner.
Team CC have been the dominant team in Overwatch Contenders, and they will be looking to maintain that dominance with a win here. I could talk about their path to this point, but all you really need to know is that they have won it all in each of the 3 previous weeks. It is going to take an off day for this team to lose, which I don’t think happens here.
