eSports Betting: Overwatch Contenders KR May 29th Matches

Written by on May 28, 2020

It is always interesting to look at the different eSports tournaments to see how the formats differ from event to event. It is not just the regular season setup that is often different across the board, but also the playoffs. The playoff setup in the Korean version of the Overwatch Contenders tournament is particularly interesting. 8 of the 14 teams who start the season make it into the playoffs, which begins with the quarterfinal matchups. The winners stay in the upper bracket, while those who fall to defeat slip into the loser’s bracket. Essentially, it is a double elimination setup that helps keep teams alive for as long as possible. The quarterfinals are in the books, with the next round starting on Friday, May 29. Let’s take a look at the 4 games on tap so you can make your bets against their Overwatch odds.

Overwatch Contenders KR May 29th Matches

Winner’s Bracket

O2 Blast vs BATTLICA

It is no surprise to see O2 Blast in this position, as they ended the 4-week regular season on top of the Overwatch standings. They also made things look particularly easy in the opening round of the playoffs, running out 3-0 winners against Lucky Future in the best of 5. They will face #4 seeded BATTLICA, who won a 3-2 thriller against Element Mystic in the last round. O2 Blast look like the team to beat here, which is why I like them to breeze past BATTLICA without too much trouble.

WGS Phoenix Vs RunAway

WGS finished second in the overall standings after the end of the regular season, which gave them a manageable game in the opening round of the playoffs. It wasn’t a total blowout, but they did eventually manage to take care of Gen.G Esports with a 3-1 win. RunAway went into the opening round of the playoffs as the lower seed against T1, but as we called in our preview, they came away with the win against a slumping team. This is a tough one to call, but I am going with WGS.

Loser’s Bracket

Lucky Future Vs Element Mystic

Lucky Future skirted with the playoff line all season long and managed to get in by the skin of their teeth in the final week. They always looked as though there were going to be outmatched and outgunned against O2 Blast, and that was certainly the case, as they lost that one 3-0. Element Mystic must be feeling a little unfortunate to be in this spot after going down 3-2 in the best of 5 quarterfinal, but they will also feel that they are more than good enough to stay alive with a win here. I think that this is indeed the case, as I am taking them to win and move on.

Gen.G Esports vs T1

You take a look at the final standings at the end of the regular season and your automatic pick here would be T1. A closer look, though, shows that they went in the tank pretty hard after winning Week 1 of the season, which is why we had them losing in the opening round. Gen.G di not play that much better and only managed to get in as the #7 seed. This is a bit of an iffy pick here, but I think that T1 find a way to get back to form and pull out the win.
