A lot of the leagues that you see in eSports are played quickly over a relatively short period of time. There are, though, some exceptions to the rule, with the Overwatch League very much in that category. They have a season that runs from February through August, with each team playing 28 games. The teams are split into two different conferences, Atlantic and Pacific, with the 12 playoff teams made up of the best that those conferences have to offer. Right now, we are in the middle of the Summer Showdown Tournament, which creates a separate league outside of the conferences. There are 3 games set to go on Saturday, July 4, so let’s take a closer look at those games so you can plan ahead your bets against their Overwatch odds.
Overwatch League July 4th matches
Chengdu Hunters Vs Guangzhou Charge
The day begins with what looks to be a rather lopsided affair between a pair of teams having very different seasons to this point. The Charge are sitting at 9-5 in the Pacific Division, which has them at 4th overall in the Overwatch League standings. They are going even better in the Summer Showdown Tournament, though, running out to a 5-1 start there, good enough for 2nd in those standings. The Hunters have not had much success this season and are struggling in the Pacific standings, as well as in the Summer Showdown. They have just 1 win in 5 games in this tournament and are 4-12 in the Pacific standings, sitting second bottom there. This looks to be a rather easy win coming up for the Charge.
Seoul Dynasty Vs London Spitfire
This one looks to be a good deal more evenly matched, as both of these teams come into this match with very similar records. These two play in different divisions, too, so this should be a fun matchup. The Dynasty are sitting in 3rd in the Pacific with a 10-6 record and have made a decent start to the Summer Showdown with a 4-2 mark. The Spitfire have been a little up and down in the Atlantic, going 8-7 through their first 5 games, a record that leaves them sitting in the middle of the table. It has been more of the same in the Summer Showdown, where they are currently at 3-2. I see the inconsistency of the Spitfire as a real problem, which is why I am taking the Dynasty to win this one.
Hangzhou Spark Vs New York Excelsior
This is another match between a pair of teams that play in opposing divisions, which always makes things a little tougher to handicap. That said, the record that these teams are sporting suggests that one of them should be considered the clear favorite here. The Spark have struggled in the Pacific, going 5-9 through their first 14 games, so it is perhaps a little surprising to see them sitting at 2-2 in the Summer Showdown. The Excelsior find themselves in the top 3 in the Atlantic Division after jumping out to a 10-4 start to the regular season. they have also been hot in the Summer Showdown, going 3-1 through their opening 4 games. Given all of that, the New York Excelsior seem to be the team to beat here.
