eSports Betting: Overwatch League May 9th Matches – Blistering Shanghai Dragons in The Spotlight

Written by on May 7, 2020

With the 2020 season of the Overwatch League rolling right along and a pair of intriguing matchups going down on Saturday, May 9, it’s time to find out who’s in action and which teams are offering the best value against their Overwatch eSports betting odds.

eSports Betting: Overwatch League May 9th Matches – Blistering Shanghai Dragons in The Spotlight

Shanghai Dragons (9-1) at Seoul Dynasty (3-3)

  • Date: Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 AM

Shanghai (1.15) is sitting in second place in the Overwatch standings. The Dragons have won five straight including a hard-fought 3:2 win over New York on May 2, following four consecutive 3:0 shutout wins. Seoul (5.0) is in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Overwatch standings. The Dynasty have lost three straight after winning their previous two, including a 3:0 shutout loss against Hangzhou on May 3.

Shanghai has compiled a blistering 27-6-1 (+21) record in maps while Seoul has gone a far more modest 9-9 in 18 maps.

These two rivals have alternated wins and losses over their last four meetings with Shanghai coming out on top 3:0 in their most recent meeting on April 26. With the Dragons riding the wave of some impressive play coming into this one and Seoul has been shutout in three consecutive matches. Shanghai has won a stellar 72 percent of their matches over the course of the last year while Seoul has won 50 percent of their matches over the same span. I like the favored Shanghai Dragons to get it done again, but this time by a closer margin.

Pick: Shanghai 3:1

Paris Eternal (5-5) at Los Angeles Gladiators (4-3)

  • Date: Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 PM

Paris (2.2) is in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Overwatch standings. The Eternal have dropped three in a row after winning their previous two and come into this affair off a narrow 3:2 loss against league-leading Philadelphia on May 3. The Gladiators (1.62) are sitting in sixth place in the Overwatch standings. L.A. has won two straight and three of their last five including a 3:1 win over Toronto on May 3.

In the only head-to-head meetings between these two teams, they played to a 1:1 draw back on February 23, 2019. However, with Paris struggling right now and L.A. playing solid Overwatch and looking to make a move up the standings, I say back the Gladiators to get it done in this one. Paris has won a modest 46 percent of their matches over the last year while Los Angeles has won 52 percent of their matches over the same span.

Pick: LA Gladiators 3:2
