2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic Odds & Preview

With the 2018-19 PGA Tour season picking up steam as it moves toward its calendar year end, its time to offer up some expert picks on the 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic. This year’s tournament features three of the top 15 players in the current Official World Golf Rankings and gets underway on Thursday live from El Camaleón Golf Club in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.

World No. 9 Rickie Fowler is the prohibitive odds-on-favorite at 8-1, with World No. 14 Jordan Spieth the No. 2 pick at 12-1 odds. Tony Finau, Gary Woodland and Aaron Wise round out the top five favorites at 14,1, 20-1, and 25-1 odds respectively.

Okay, let’s get to my top five golf betting picks to win this exciting event, which, by the way, offers the largest purse of any Latin American tournament there is.

1. Gary Woodland

I’m going with 34-year-old Kansas native Gary Woodland as my top pick to win the 2018  Mayakoba Golf Classic. In his last three tournaments, Woodland has finished T5 at the CIMB Classic, second at the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges and T10 at the Shriners last weekend. Woodland finished as the runner-up in the 2016 Mayakoba Golf Classic and he’s my pick at a value-packed 20-1 odds.

2. Rickie Fowler

After taking some time off to recharge his body, Rickie Fowler cam back on Tour with a stellar fourth place finish at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Fowler has recorded a trio of top-10 finishes in each of his last three events and finished as the runner-up here a year ago. There’s a reason why he’s the favorite, even he is my No. 2 pick to take the hardware from this event.

3. Abraham Ancer

You might not know who the 27-year-old Ancer is, but you will! The Texas native has some serious game despite standing just 5’ 7”. Ancer has finished T5 at the CIMB Classic and T4 at the Shriners in his last two tournaments, not to mention the fact that he finished T9 in the Mayakoba Classic a year ago. Besides, at 45-1 odds, he’s a must-bet player for me in this event.

4. Scott Piercy

Piercy is on fire right now, having finished T27 at the CIMB Classic, T10 at the Shriners Open and T5 at The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges in his last three tournaments. In addition to that, Piercy also has a trio of Top 20 finishes in his last five appearances in this event, including a fine, fourth place finish a year ago.

5. Emiliano Grillo

Grillo has finished T2 at the CIMB Classic, T14 at the WGC – HSBC Champions and T41 at the Safeway Open on his last three events. More importantly, in two appearances in this event he’s recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes. Grillo has finished under par in each of his four events this season and ranks in the top 10 in several important statistical categories. I like Grillo as a 28-1 pick for the upset.
