Among the favorites, Rory, Brooks, and Jon Rahm, which golfer deserves the most attention?

McIlroy bombed at The Open Championship as the favorite. No worries! Rory’s bounced back with a couple of great finishes: fourth at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational and sixth at the Northern Trust Open. He shot a -18 last year in this. That was only two strokes off winner Keegan Bradley.

Anybody who wants to take short odds on Rory has every right to do so. His sticks are hot, he heads to a golf course he likes, and the putrid performance at Royal Portrush didn’t affect his game.

But although Rory looks tough, so do both Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka. Brooks is a contender any time he takes a club from his golf bag. The world number one finished fourth at The Open Championship and won the St. Jude Invitational. Sure, he heads into this off a thirtieth at the Northern Trust Open, but so what? He finished fourth at Royal Portrush after a sixty-fifth at the 3M Open. He should provide a bounce back performance here, which means he gets into the Top 5 for sure.

Golf handicappers should probably lead towards Jon Rahm. He heads to Sedgefield off a third at the Northern Trust Open. He shot a decent -11 at last year’s BMW Championship. He also offers better odds than either Rory or Brooks. Rahm is the play among the favorites. But, again, anybody who likes McIlroy or Koepka has every right to do so.

Which golfer among Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Justin Rose has the best shot of winning the 2019 BMW Championship?

Dustin Johnson hasn’t broken into the Top 10 since a second place at the PGA Championship in mid-May. Justin Thomas shot a -15 at the 2018 BMW Championship. He most definitely has a shot here because he’s played well, hovering around the Top 10 in his last 3 tournaments.

Rose gets the nod among these 3, though. Justin Rose lost the BMW Championship last year in a playoff. He shot a -20. Rose is on an uptrend. He finished eleventh at the St. Jude. Last week, he finished tenth at the Northern Trust Open. He could dominate Sedgefield this week.

Which underdog golfer can win the 2019 BMW Championship?

Both Xander Schauffele and Billy Horschel should outplay their odds. Let’s start with Schauffele.

Xander shot a -19 at last year’s event. He missed the cut at the Northern Trust Open, which is why he’s at +3300. He could turn his form around big time. He missed the cut at the Northern Trust Open last year before finishing third at the BMW Championship.

Horschel has been in decent form. He finished twenty-first at the Northern Trust Open. That’s not too bad. Before that, he finished sixth at the Wyndham and ninth at the St. Jude Invitational. He can get hot this week at Sedgefield.

Both Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele qualify as solid underdogs to win the 2019 BMW Championship. Look their way if you want to back a golfer offering overlay underdog odds.
