The PGA Tour will be in Vegas for consecutive weeks with the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek taking place in the City of Lights next week. The ZoZo Championship follows with Tiger Woods looking to defend his title in sunny California. Now, however, let’s take a look back at some of the past winners of this event before moving forward to take a look at this week’s odds and the field of title contenders.

In 2018, current world No. 6 and reigning U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau got the win in Vegas – by one stroke over Cantlay. In 2017, Cantlay, currently 13th in the world rankings, won it all in a playoff over Alex Cejka and Kim Meen-whee. Now, let’s get to this year’s event.

The Top 5 Golfers To Bet On

 No. 5 Rickie Fowler

Currently 41st in the FedEx world rankings, no one is expecting Fowler to challenge for the outright win in this event, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he does. Yes, Fowler missed the cut in four of his final nine events on the 2019-20 PGA Tour calendar, but he also finished T3 in the Taylor Made Driving Relief Open in May while finishing T12 in the Rocket Mortgage Classic and T15 in the St. Jude Invitational in August. Fowler comes into this tournament off of consecutive T49 finishes at the Northern Trust and last month’s U.S. Open and that makes the 31-year-old Californian my longshot pick to pull off the win.

No. 4 Patrick Cantlay

The 28-year-old Cantlay played 12 events last season while recording one second place finish (in this event) while also recording three Top-10 finishes and seven Top-25 finishes. Cantlay made the cut 11 times and recorded six Top-45 finishes in his final seven tournaments last season. The California native also finished T43 in last month’s U.S. Open and has finished second or better in each of the last three Shriners Hospital tournaments. His past success and consistency in this event makes Cantlay my No. 4 pick to bring home the hardware.

No. 3 Harris English

Sure, 31-year-old Harris English isn’t a household name by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe he should be. Currently ranked 17th in the Fed Ex Cup rankings and 36th in the world rankings, Harris closed out the 2019-20 campaign with eight straight Top-40 finishes including a second place finish in the Northern Trust. More importantly, Harris recorded a stellar fourth place finish at last month’s U.S. Open, giving him nine consecutive Top-40 finishes coming into this event. Simply put, I like Harris to challenge for the outright win.

No. 2 Bryson DeChambeau

The 27-year-old FedEx No. 1 recorded one win last season by taking the title at the Rocket Mortgage Classic while finishing second once and third on one other occasion. DeChambeau recorded nine Top-10 finishes and 11 Top-25 finishes in 17 appearances while missing just three cuts. More importantly, the now, powerfully built Californian won last month’s U.S. Open by shooting three rounds in the 60s. After some time off since then, DeChambeau is well-rested and should easily challenge for the win this coming weekend.

No. 1 Webb Simpson

The 35-year-old North Carolina native is on fire, having recorded seven Top-37 finishes in eight events to close out the 2019-20 PGA Tour season before finishing T8 at last month’s U.S. Open. Simpson. Last season, Simpson recorded two wins at the Waste Management Open and RBC Heritage while finishing second once and third on two other occasions. Simpson recorded eight Top-10 finishes and 10 Top-25 finishes while failing to make the cut just twice in 14 events. Oh yeah, Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open winner, also won this event in 2014, making him my top pick to cash in this weekend.
