2023 CFL Grey Cup Odds: Montreal Seeks Upset Win in Grey Cup

2023 CFL Grey Cup Odds & Analysis: Montreal Seeks Upset Win in Grey Cup

The Montreal Alouettes finally got a win against one of the top teams in the CFL. The best part for the Alouettes was that they did it, finally, at the best possible time. After losing seven straight games against Winnipeg, Toronto and B.C. to start the season, the Alouettes forced nine turnovers on defense. They stunned the Argonauts 38-17 in the East Division championship game.

Now, Montreal has its sights set on the West Division champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Blue Bombers were hoping to get revenge on Toronto for upsetting them in the Grey Cup last year. Now, Winnipeg is eager to beat up a less experienced team that hasn’t made the championship game since 2010.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers must be wary of looking past the Montreal Alouettes when the teams meet for the Grey Cup. With that in mind, here’s a look at what to expect from the Grey Cup so you can bet against their CFL betting lines.

Can Montreal’s Offense be Consistent?

The Alouettes have switched gears since Week 16. Montreal has scored 27 or more points in five of its six games to close the season. The Alouettes won all six of those games. During the regular season, Montreal averaged 24.6 points per game, which ranked fourth in the CFL.

The Alouettes’ offense goes as quarterback Cody Fajardo does. During the regular season, he passed for 3,830 yards, but finished with 12 interceptions against only 14 touchdowns. In the playoffs, Fajardo has thrown two interceptions in Montreal’s two playoff games.

The Alouettes have an excellent running back in William Stanback, who averages 5.4 yards per carry. Montreal struggled in both matchups with Winnipeg this season. The Alouettes only scored three points in the first meeting and 17 in the second.

Winnipeg Closed Season with Strong Flurry

The Blue Bombers have won their last five games. In the West Division final against B.C., Winnipeg made life miserable for Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. The Blue Bombers forced him to throw three interceptions and used that momentum to pick up a 24-13 win.

Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros managed the games well for the Blue Bombers; he passed for 158 yards and didn’t throw any interceptions. Running back Brady Oliveira carried the offense. He ran the ball 21 times for 109 yards and a touchdown. Winnipeg also benefited from a defensive touchdown when Nick Hallett returned a fumble 15 yards for a score.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs Montreal Alouettes Final Betting Analysis | Blue Bombers are Deserving Favorite

Winnipeg is an 8.5-point favorite for the Grey Cup. The Blue Bombers are -395 on the moneyline, while the Alouettes are +310. The over/under has been set at 47 points. Including the playoffs, Montreal is 12-7-1 against the spread this season.

The Alouettes are 7-0-1 against the spread over the past eight games. Winnipeg is 12-7 against teh spread. The Blue Bombers have seen the total go over the number in 14 of their 19 games. While this game may be more competitive than the first two meetings between the two teams, the Blue Bombers should cover the spread this time around.
