Favored Thunder Snow at +300 must break from post-position 12. That puts him in a tough situation. Does jockey Cristophe Soumillon gun Thunder Snow to the lead? Does he pull back and wait until they go around the first turn to make up ground on frontrunners North America and Capezzano?
What does Soumillon do? Because North America and Capezzano break next to each other, Capezzano is in post 2 while North America breaks from post 3, Thunder Snow’s a throw out to repeat as Dubai World Cup Champion. Those two monster horses should be well ahead of him before they go around the first turn unless Soumillon does go for it out of the gate.
Of the two beast front runners, Capezzano at +500 is much preferred. He’s sired by Bernardini and was born from an A.P. Indy broodmare. He’s a Kentucky type racehorse who loves dirt. He also ran his competition into the ground when he won the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 by 7 ½ lengths.
Which less than +2000 shot has a chance to win the 2019 Dubai World Cup?
Audible offers excellent +1200 odds and is coming up well to the race. Last year’s Florida Derby winner hasn’t had that much success since taking that Grade 1. He has however raced well, including finishing fifth in the Pegasus World Cup, the world’s richest horse race, in his last.
Todd Pletcher trains, which automatically gives Audible a chance on Saturday. Pletcher’s been on fire. If he says Audible is ready, who are we to argue?
What longshot has a chance to win on March 30?
Dolkong won the Curlin Handicap at Meydan and then a week later finished third behind Thunder Snow and Capezzano in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3. He must break from post-position 13, but for a horse like this, that’s not such a bad thing, and Dolkong’s +2000 odds are nice.
Dolkong is a straight closer that must get pace to chase to win, anyhow. If Capezzano and North America don’t butt heads early, his chances of winning are nil. If those two go at it and Thunder Snow gets into the mix, he’ll have a shot because he’s the best closer in this race and has an affinity for Meydan while the other closers like Yoshida will be tasting the Meydan dirt for the first time.
