Belmont Park Picks for Friday, June 12

Race 6 – 3:59 pm ET – 1 1/8 Miles Inner Turf – $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Chad Brown has a couple of contenders in here. Of the two, the better play should be Eliade. Offering a 9/2 morning line, the Teofilo sired 4-year-old miss debuts with Lasix. She won her last race in October and has a real nice record of 2 wins and 4 seconds from 8 events. Joel Rosario takes the call.

Brown’s other runner, Noor Sahara, should go off the chalk. Jockey Irad Oritz rides. From 29 mounts, Irad has won with 13 of them. That’s a crazy 45% win rate. Make sure to box the two Brown favorites. The odds won’t be anything, but this horse could totally outclass this field.

Beau Belle might hold the 10/1 morning line odds. The Giant’s Causeway sired 5-year-old miss has run races good enough to win this if Brown’s horses weren’t entered. That’s how much better Chad’s horses look versus the rest of this field.

  • Win: Eliade
  • Place: Noor Sahara
  • Show: Beau Belle

Race 8 – 5:04 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Turf –$62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Chad Brown saddles winners after winners, but a good strategy is to bet against a Chad horse that’s vulnerable. That’s why we’re going against Sayyaaf for the wins in Race 8 on Friday. We like Dirty to take this even though in his last, he ran horribly. That event was in November on Aqueduct’s turf, though. Dirty returns to Belmont where he has a win and second from 3 races over the grass. The off the board finish happened in the Grade 1 Jaipur. So, Dirty fits with these.

Bill Mott trained Chewing Gum is a good racehorse. The Mott runner finished third in a 5 ½ furlong turf sprint at Churchill Downs in its last. That should set this one up well for the race on Friday.

Sayyaaf is ridiculously fast. But there is other speed in this, including Abiding Star who is just as fast early. We can’t endorse for the win slot at the expected underlay odds.

  • Win: Dirty
  • Place: Chewing Gum
  • Show: Sayyaaf

Race 9 – 5:36 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $125,000 Commentator Stakes

We’re going to try to beat Mr. Buff with Jeremiah Englehart trained Pat On the Back. With a record of 3 wins and a second from 6 races at the distance, and a 6-3-3 record from 12 races over Belmont’s dirt, Pat On the Back has the best shot of upsetting the chalk. It also helps that Mr. Buff breaks right to the inside of Pat On the Back.

If Mr. Buff shows up with his best, he could blow this field away by around 7 lengths. There are questions, though, which make it difficult to put the 6/5 morning line chalk on top. First, the last 3 wins happened at Aqueduct. Sometimes, horses that race at Aqueduct don’t translate their form to Belmont. Second, it’s hard to win 4 races in a row unless you’re named Zenyatta. Finally, Pat On the Back beat this one last May under similar circumstances.

We can’t toss Chad Brown runner Build to Suit from the win or place slots. Use Build to Suit in all 3 slots in your tri. Brown has campaigned this runner to a 6-2-2 record from 10 races. So, we must respect.

  • Win: Pat On the Back
  • Place: Mr. Buff
  • Show: Build to Suit
