Gulfstream Park Picks for Wednesday, June 3

Race 6 – 3:59 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $66,000 Allowance

This looks like a good race to take a shot on an overlay, which is why we’re backing Say Hey to get it done at 12/1 morning line odds. The Cristophe Clement trained 4-year-old filly runs in the states for the first time. She gets top jockey Joel Rosario to ride while there are questions about the two chalks, Passive Investing and Madita.

Of the 2 favorites, Passive Investing looks best. The Chad Brown trainee heads into this off a maiden win in October. Chad wins 27% with last out maiden winners. Jockey Javier Castellano sticks while the chalk has worked great.

For third, we’ll give Fashion Star a chance. Claude McGaughey saddles. That alone makes this one a contender. She barely missed by a neck after going off a  2/1 favorite in her first in the states. Any improvement could put her in the winner’s circle. So, consider for top and bottom.

  • Win: Pivotal
  • Place: Passive Investing
  • Show: Fashion Star

Race 8 – 5:04 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf –$62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Chad Brown trained Value Proposition broke his maiden, failed in a Grade 3 in his first versus winners, but then picked his feet up enough for a win in an $80,000 optional claimer in his second against winners. That race happened last July. Brown wins 30% off extended layoffs while the work tab says this one puts in a good run. We might also get decent odds because horseplayers figure to pound Hidden Scroll.

The Bill Mott trained Juddmonte Farm owned runner goes first time turf. Although Scroll should beat these, he’s tended to hang in his last few races. Who knows? Maybe, the chalk will take to the lawn. Or, maybe, he doesn’t want to race anymore. Either way, the best course of action is to put Hidden Scroll in the exacta but not play him on top.

Cross Border could win this race. The reason we like the Mike Maker trained 6-year-old roan for third is because he appears better suited for longer distances. Consider on top, middle, and bottom of your trifecta, though, because if Maker has him ready, he might just take these gate to wire.

  • Win: Value Proposition
  • Place: Hidden Scroll
  • Show: Cross Border

Race 9 – 5:36 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Inner Turf – $100,000 Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes

Clement has another possible overlay winner in Race 9. Call Me Love is a graded stakes winner in Italy. She’s worked great leading up to this. Although it will be tough to beat Rushing Fall and Got Stormy, Call Me Love has the best shot. We’ll take a chance and put the 12/1 morning line runner on top.

Got Stormy is a better play for the place than Rushing Fall. She’ll offer better odds. Not only that but she finished second in the Grade 1 Frank E. Kilroe mile on March 7. The works have been superb. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione can see what Javier Castellano does aboard Rushing Fall since that chief rival breaks from the rail.

If Chad Brown trained Rushing Fall is ready, forget it. The chalk will win this race. But the 8 time winner from 11 starts ran her worst race ever in her last. Sometimes, when fillies turn into mares, which is what Rushing Fall did on Jan. 1, they tire of racing. That could be the case with Rushing Fall. We like her to finish in the top 3. We can’t bet her to win, though.

  • Win: Call Me Love
  • Place: Got Stormy
  • Show: Rushing Fall
