Another Saturday this time of the year means it’s another day for Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks prep races.
At Aqueduct, three year olds run a mile in the Grade 3 Gotham.
Then over at Gulfstream, it’s the Grade 2 Davona Dale for fillies and the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth for colts.
Sant Anita runs the Grade II San Felipe Stakes where second choice in the Kentucky Futures, Barnes, will run.
Check out more information on those three Derby preps as well as stakes action for the Sant Anita Big Cap at the Great Race Place.

Grade 3 Gotham Stakes
1 mile dirt – three year olds
Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Aqueduct Racetrack
Brad Cox will saddle two, Sacrosanct and Flood Zone.
Sacrosanct has won 4-of-4 and is likely to go off the chalk while Flood Zone heads to this graded race after breaking the maiden.
If you look to beat the Cox runners, there are ways to go.
Normandy Coast and McAfee go for decent trainers, Eddie Kenneally saddles Normandy Coast and McAfee is from the Richard Dutrow barn.
Both are in decent form.
Linda Rice has a contender in San Devil.
But the one to back could be Chad Brown trained Garamond, a last out maiden winner.
Brown has gotten good with three year olds.
Bet Gotham Stakes : Santa Anita Park
Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes
1 mile dirt – three year old fillies
Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Gulfstream Park
Only seven will go in the Davona Dale but all seven can win this.
The Queen’s MG has already earned close to $300,000.
The Saffie Joseph Jr. runner must pick up her feet after finishing third in the Forward Gal Stakes in her last.
La Cara for Mark Casse can get it done.
But the big money should fall on Chad Brown trained Ballerina d’Oro.
The filly bounced in the Grade 2 Jessamine Stakes when finishing eighth.
Brown entered her in the Grade 2 Demoiselle and she ran great when finishing second behind Muhimma.
Unless she bounces again, Ballerina should be tough in this.
Bet Davona Dale Stakes : Santa Anita Park
Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – three year olds
Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Gulfstream Park
Two runners will demand most of the betting attention in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes.
Burnham Square trained by Ian Wilkes is a straight up runner.
The Liam’s Map sired colt followed up the maiden breaking score with a win the Holy Bull.
Sovereignty might be Bill Mott’s best chance of winning a Kentucky Derby in his career.
The Into Mischief sired and Godolphin owned colt was sensational when breaking the maiden and then scoring the victory in the Street Sense.
Todd Pletcher hopes to develop River Thames into a Derby contender.
A win in the Fountain of Youth will go a long way in doing that.
River is 2-for-2 and both wins impressed.
Right now, the Pletcher looks like the pick.
Bet Fountain of Youth Stakes : Santa Anita Park
Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes
1 1/16 miles – three year olds
Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Santa Anita Park
Bob Baffert is back on the Triple Crown Trail with a vengeance.
The only man to have won the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, Baffert did it twice with American Pharoah in 2015 and Justify in 2018, has 3-of-6 entrants in the San Felipe.
Rodriguez, Barnes, and Mellencamp will all go for Bob.
Barnes is offering 8-1 odds to win the Derby, the same odds as Baffert’s top Derby threat, Citizen Bull.
So much is expected of Barnes.
The top upsetter looks to be Journalism from the Mike McCarthy barn.
Journalism won the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity as a two year old.
Journalism must prove he can take on the Baffert beasts.
If he does, a trip to Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May will be on the table.
Bet San Felipe Stakes : Santa Anita Park
Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap
1 ¼ miles dirt – four year olds and up
Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Santa Anita Park
The most classic of Grade 1 races on the West Coast, the event that they created for the legendary Seabiscuit has it’s 2025 rendition on Saturday.
This year’s Big Cap includes a couple of invaders from the East.
Brad Cox hopes to upset the Cali trainers with one of his top handicap horses, the over $1 million earning Hit Show.
Lightly raced Locked, which finished second in the Grade 1 Pegasus Invitational in the last, goes for Todd Pletcher.
Both will be ultra tough to beat if they handle the surface.
Baffert’s got a couple in here, Mirahmadi and New King.
Neither has the resume that Locked and Hit Show have.
Keep an eye on action that lands on SoCal stalwart Express Train.
John Shirreffs saddles.
So the horse is well meant.
Also, Doug O’Neill trained Katonah could step it up enough to upset the faves.
Katonah won the Grade 2 San Pasqual in the last.

How to Bet on Horse Racing Lines? Let’s Find Out
Betting on horse racing lines is a thrilling way to engage with one of the oldest and most popular sports in the world. Understanding how to read and bet on these lines is key to making informed wagers.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to bet:
- Understand the Odds
Horse racing odds reflect the likelihood of a horse winning, and they determine how much you can win based on your wager.
The odds are typically displayed as a ratio (e.g., 3/1 or 5/2). Meanwhile, the first number shows how much you can win if you bet the second number. For example, a 5/2 odds means if you bet $2, you win $5 if the horse finishes first. - Types of Bets
There are several types of bets you can place on horse races:- Win: Bet on a horse to finish in first place.
- Place: Bet on a horse to finish in either first or second place.
- Show: Bet on a horse to finish in the top three.
- Exacta: Bet on the first and second place horses in the correct order.
- Trifecta: Bet on the first, second, and third place horses in the correct order.
- Superfecta: Bet on the first four horses in the correct order.
- Evaluate the Horses
Study the race, the horses, and their past performances. This includes their speed, form, jockey, and track record.
Pay attention to the morning lines (odds set before the race), as they can give you an idea of how each horse is expected to perform. - Place Your Bet
Once you’ve chosen your bet and horse, you can place it through a sportsbook or racebook.
For online betting, make sure to check the horse racing lines available on your betting platform. - Watch the Race
Once the race is on, keep an eye on how your horse performs. If your horse wins, you’ll collect your payout based on the odds and your wager.

Betting MyBookie Horse Racing in February: Top Stakes Races for the Weekend
The richest horse race of the year takes place on Saturday when top thoroughbreds compete over dirt at the KSA racetrack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the winner’s share of a $20 million dollar purse in the Group 1 Saudi Cup.
Then after the Saudi Cup, Oaklawn has one of it’s biggest days of the meet with three Grade 3 races.
One of the three is the $1.25 million Rebel Stakes.

Grde 1 Saudi Cup
1 1/8 miles dirt – $20,000,000 – four year olds and up
Saturday, February 22
King Abdulaziz – KSA – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Only one American horse projects to enter the gate for this year’s Saudi Cup.
Kenny McPeek plans on racing Rattle N Roll, which won the Grade 2 Clark Stakes in the last.
Rattle N Roll has the ability to hit the board, but winning might be tough.
Three horses should demand most of the money.
Romantic Warrior is a Group 1 winning machine.
All of the wins have came on turf but when a horse does as well as Romantic Warrior, surface sometimes doesn’t matter.
Forever Young has two third place finishes and nothing but wins on the resume.
The Japanese horse may go off the chalk.
Ushba Tesoro is another to keep in mind.
Build exotics around one of the three faves.
Bet Horse Racing: Saudi Cup
John Battaglia Memorial Stakes
1 1/6 miles all weather – $175,000 – three year olds
Turfway Park
Although not graded, the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes is a solid Kentucky Derby prep.
Expect a full field led by legit Derby contender First Response.
The Godolphin bred and owned Uncle Mo sired colt picks up Luis Saez for the run.
If First Response wins, expect a massive blow in the Derby Futures.
Calling Card hails from the Mike Maker barn and will have a shot.
So will Maximum Promise.
But Maximum Promise breaks from post position 12.
So be wary about placing too much on the nose.
Give Brendan Walsh trained King of Ashes a look.
Bet John Battaglia Memorial Stakes: Turfway Park
Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – $500,000 – fillies three years old
Oaklawn Park
Brad Cox trained monster filly Muhimma is the 7/5 morning line chalk.
Beating Muhimma is going to take a gargantuan effort but the fave breaks from post position 1.
So looking for an alternative might be the best move.
Take Charge Lady is 9/2 for Kenny McPeek.
The post position is decent and solid jock Julien Leparoux gets the call.
Five G can win this but must make a trip from the far outside post.
That’s not ideal at Oaklawn.
Tom Amoss will saddle a possible overlay in 12/1 Quickquick.
Bet Honeybee Stakes: Oaklawn Park
Grade 3 Razorback Handicap
1 1/16 miles dirt – $500,000 – four year olds and up
Oaklawn Park
First Mission has won 5-of-10.
So if the 5/1 morning line holds, the Brad Cox trainee is worth putting on top.
The ML fave is 7/2 Banishing.
The David Jacobsen runner looked good winning a low level stakes at Oaklawn in January.
Beating a runner like First Mission should be tough, though.
Crupi hails form the Todd Pletcher barn.
So a win isn’t out of the question and the 6/1 morning line is nice.
The top longshot might be 15/1 Red Route One trained by Steve Asmussen.
The horse has talent.
It’s a question of putting it all together on Saturday.
Bet Razorback Handicap: Oaklawn Park
Grade 3 Rebel Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – $1,250,000 – three year olds
Oaklawn Park
Madaket Road is the 9/2 morning line second choice.
Once the betting starts, horseplayers should pound Madaket to favoritism.
Bob Baffert has lot of good three year olds this year.
He often sends the one he thinks has a great shot to win the Kentucky Derby to run in the Rebel and the Arkansas Derby.
Baffert must think highly of Madaket Road.
The morning line chalk is Mark Casse trained Sandman.
Tapit is Sandman’s sire.
So the breeding is there.
If Sandman drifts to second choice, consider using on top.
Speed King trained by Ron Moquett and Tiztastic from the Steve Asmussen barn both deserve a look.
Speed King is getting some play in the Derby Futures while Tiztastic is a Tiz the Law sired colt that appears to have a ton of talent.
Bet Rebel Stakes: Oaklawn Park

1 1/16 miles dirt – Purse $165,000 – Fillies and Mares four and up
Saturday, February 15th, 2025
Gulfstream Park
A couple of last out allowance winners could end up attracting the most action in this.
Todd Pletcher sends out Autumn Evening and Bill Mott puts the saddle on Grand Job.
Both looked good winning their last races.
Other contenders include Dream Concert, Foreseen, and American Retro.
Pay attention to the action on Saffie Joseph Jr. trained Intrepid Daydream.
She finished fourth in the Sugar Swirl in her last but has the talent to win this.
Bet Royal Delta Stakes: Gulfstream Park
Grade 3 Mineshaft Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – Purse $250,000 – Four years old and up
Saturday, February 15th, 2025
Fair Grounds Racetrack
Brad Cox trained Catching Freedom is the 3/1 morning line chalk.
Catching Freedom’s best races have happened over the Fair Grounds’ dirt.
So the ML makes sense.
Second choice on the morning line Hall of Fame goes for Steve Asmussen.
Hall of Fame won a tune up allowance race in the last.
Tuscan Sky is 9/2 on the morning line.
The Todd Pletcher trained runner didn’t look good in the last when finishing seventh.
Batten Down is a co-second choice along with Hall of Fame.
Both offer 4/1 on the morning line.
The Bill Mott trained Batten Down may have the most talent of them all.
Bet Mineshaft Stakes: Fair Grounds Race Course
Grade 3 Fair Grounds Stakes
1 1/8 miles turf – Purse $175,000 – Four years old and up
Saturday, February 15th, 2025
Fair Grounds Racetrack
Asmussen trained Gigante finished first in the Colonel E. Bradley Stakes, which explains he 7/2 morning line.
Gigante breaks from post 2 and should be well handled by jockey Jose Ortiz.
What Say Three is 9/2 on the morning line and picks up the services of Luis Saez.
The Mike Maker trained runner can save a lot of ground around both turns.
If Saez can pull out in time for the stretch run, a win is possible.
Don’t be surprised if Chad Brown trained Unit Economics falls from 5/1 to favoritism before the gates open.
Brown doesn’t always ship to Louisiana.
So we must expect the horse is well meant.
Taking Candy must get in a good position from post position 8.
If the odds fall from 4/1, the Cherie DeVaux trained runner is worth a look to build exotics around.
Bet Fair Grounds Stakes: Fair Grounds Race Course
Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – Purse $300,000 – Three year old fillies
Saturday, February 15th, 2025
Fair Grounds Racetrack
The morning line odds suggest the Rachel Alexandra is a three horse race.
Good Cheer won the Grade 2 Golden Rod in the last and is a super favorite at 6/5 on the morning line.
Good Cheer could get it done for sure but money should flow to a couple of other runners in here.
Simply Joking won the Silverbulletday in the last.
At a 4/1 morning line, the Practical Joke sired miss offers much better odds than Good Cheer.
Chad Brown saddles Ballerina d’Oro.
Brown gets them ready to win.
So she’s a nice play at 7/2 if you think you can beat the Cox runner.
Bet Rachel Alexandra Stakes: Fair Grounds Race Course
Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes
1 1/8 miles dirt – Purse $500,000 – Three year olds
Saturday, February 15th, 2025
Fair Grounds Racetrack
Brendan Walsh has the morning line chalk in 9/5 East Avenue.
But although East Avenue has back class, the Medaglia d’Oro sired colt hasn’t run since finishing ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last November.
We should try and beat East Avenue if we can.
Built is 5/1 on the morning line and finished second in the Grade 3 Lecomte stakes.
Built has attracted some money in the Kentucky Derby futures.
Don’t be surprised if Built challenges East Avenue for favoritism.
Septarian is 12/1 and goes for Chad Brown, which makes Protonico sired runner a must use.
If the odds hold, throwing out the racing form and betting Septarian to win might be the way to go.
Again, Brown doesn’t mess around when he ships.

Damon Runyon Stakes | Horse Racing in February
7 furlongs – NY bred 3 year olds
Saturday, February 8th, 2025
Aqueduct Race Track
Five will go in the 2025 Damon Runyon Stakes.
Although the field is short, all five appear to have a shot to scamper into the winner’s circle.
Linda Rice has 2-of-5, San Devil and Just Licorice, which gives one of New York’s top trainers a big shot.
Danny Gargan trained National Identity, ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, is the potential chalk.
National Identity breaks from the outside, an advantageous position in a short field.
Above all, Soontobeking and Fireballin are the other two runners.
Bet Forward Gal Stakes: Aqueduct Race Track
Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes
5 furlongs turf – fillies and mares 4 years old and up
Saturday, February 8th, 2025
Gulfstream Park
Horse Racing in February has a field of nine will break from the gate in this Saturday’s Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes.
Saffie Joseph Jr saddles Blind Spot, which if she can make a trip from post position 1 will be difficult to beat.
Breaking next to Blind Spot is Mark Casse trained Karaya.
Luis Saez steps aboard Just Care, which gives the Brian Lynch runner a chance.
Above all, others to consider include Sinead, Edward Plesa trained Epona’s Hope, and Beauty of the Sea, which breaks from post position 9 and should have an edge if she doesn’t have to go too wide around the final turn.
Bet Forward Gal Stakes: Gulfstream Park
Grade 3 Bayakoa Stakes
1 1/16 miles dirt – fillies and mares 4 years old and up
Saturday, February 8th, 2025
Oaklawn
Firstly, only six will run in the Bayakoa Stakes on Saturday but of the six, four offer morning line odds of 4/1 or less.
Little Jamie is the 4/1 shot. Free Like A Girl is at 3/1.
Kenny McPeek trained Corningstone, which breaks from the rail, is at 2/1 and the 9/5 morning line chalk is six year old mare Loved from the Brendan Walsh barn.
The other two entrants are 10/1 Wild Bout Hillary and 20/1 Bow Draw.
If you can make a case for the longshots, do it.
If not and you want to bet this race, see how the action shakes out before backing any of the chalks.
Bet Holy Bull Stakes: Oaklawn Park
Grade 3 San Marcos Stakes
1 ¼ miles turf – 4 year olds and up
Saturday, February 8th, 2025
Santa Anita Park
Horse Racing in February brings us Grade 3 San Marcos Stakes starts at the top of Santa Anita’s famous downhill turf course and then goes around the turf track.
There isn’t a single entrant that doesn’t have experience running down the hill, which means we have to put on our handicapping caps to find the winner.
There Goes Harvard, Dicey Mo Chara, Easter, and Truly Quality all have success running over Santa Anita’s lawn.
Nineeleventurbo, from famed trainer Neil Drysdale’s barn, and John Shirreffs trained Atitlan won’t be easy to beat.
In addition, this could be one of those races where we choose two to three runners and then bet the horse that offers the best odds.
The San Marcos should be that close on Saturday.
So wait a bit once the betting starts and look for the overlay.
Bet Santa Stakes: Santa Anita Park
Sweet Life Stakes | Horse Racing in February
6 ½ furlongs turf – 3 year old fillies
Sunday, February 9th, 2025
Santa Anita Park
Like the San Marcos, the Sweet Life Stakes on Sunday is an odds race, meaning even if we like a specific horse, we should consider backing the overlay.
The downhill turf at Santa Anita is notorious for producing huge mutuel payouts.
So we shouldn’t settle on the chalk.
To make things more difficult from a handicapping perspective, ten will go in the Sweet Life.
Meanwhile, Doug O’Neill’s got three of the ten, which means even Dougie doesn’t know what’s going to happen.
Also, these are 3 year old fillies, which means their maturity level may not be there yet for the downhill turf course run.
Look for a price horse and build low cost exotics is my suggestion.

Horse Racing in February: Oaklawn Park Horse Picks
- When: Friday, April 3 at 2:05 pm ET
- Where: Hot Springs, AR
- Weather: Rain Showers Likely
- Temperature: High 71 – Low 57
Oaklawn Park Picks for Friday, April 3
Race 4 – 3:35 pm ET – 1 1/6 Miles Dirt – $32,000 Claiming
Firstly, Mighty Manfred has lost its last couple of races by a combined 28 lengths. The 6-year-old gelding takes a steep dive from the $50K claiming level, though. Also, the last was Manfred’s first since June 2019. Trainer Steve Asmussen owns and trains.
5/2 morning line Horse Racing Odds chalk Malibu Pro finished second in a $20,000 starter allowance going this distance in the last. Former top SoCal jockey Martin Garcia rides. Garcia will put this one into the mix early. If Malibu repeats the last performance, the 7-year-old gelding probably wins.
Asmussen’s other runner, Potomac, is another with a shot. Throw out the race in February. That was Potomac’s first since last December. It was also an $86,000 Allowance. This is a huge drop. Like Mighty Manfred, any sort of improvement could lead to a win.
Race 8 – 5:38 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Dirt – $100,000 Allowance Optional Claiming
Stone cold closer Rated R Superstar always requires a fast pace. The 6/1 morning line choice should get it here. Superstar has been running in much better races. Lenstar, Pirate’s Punch, and Gato Guapo will be winging it on the front end. The closer could take win honors in this.
Pirate’s Punch last raced in the Grade 3 Mineshaft. The speedy son of Shanghai Bobby finished third in the graded event. This is a step-down but there’s other speed, which could soften the chalk up enough for Rated R Superstar to go blowing by. Punch is the one to catch.
Brad Cox saddles Kurilov in the eighth. The Lookin At Lucky sired 7-year-old has a devastating closing kick. There should be enough speed for Kurilov to have a say in the outcome. But it’s hard to see this one beating either Rated R Superstar or Pirate’s Punch.
Race 9 – 6:09 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $61,000 Allowance
4-year-old filly Shocking Fast heads into this off a maiden score. Although that can be a recipe for disaster, trainer Steve Asmussen wins 22% with his last out maiden victors. Jockey Ricardo Santana sticks while Shocking Fast won the maiden by 5 ½ lengths.
Chalk Gold Credit is a Goldencents sired, Phil D’Amato trained filly that finished third in a $90K allowance in her last. D’Amato wins 22% with horses running second-time for him. But the 2/1 morning line Horse Racing Odds dissuade from a win bet.
In conclusion, the great D. Wayne Lukas puts the saddle on Crystal Lake. The 3/1 second choice on the morning line should get a decent setup. Lake has a win, 2 seconds, and 4 third-place finishes from 9 starts. In conclusion, let’s peg Lake for the show money.

Maker’s Mark Mile | Grade 1
Track: Keeneland Racecourse, Lexington, Kentucky
When: Friday, April 14, 2023
Race type: Thoroughbred – Flat racing
Distance: 1 mile turf – 4 year olds & up
The Maker’s Mark Mile is one of the year’s top mile turf races. However, this year, only five runners have committed to going in the MMM. One of the reasons for the lack of contenders could be because Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Modern Games has entered.
Connections for Chez Pierre, Dr. Zempf, Speaking Scout, and In Love aren’t afraid to take on the champ. Of the four, Dr. Zempf arrives from Chad Brown’s barn. The last out allowance winner takes a massive step up in class, but Brown is a master grass trainer.

Gulfstream Park – Saturday, March 12
Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes – 5 furlongs turf – 4 year olds and up
Grade 3 Chilukki winner Obligatory figures to go off the chalk in what should be a terrific rendition of the Hurricane Bertie. Four Graces, which finished second in the Inside Information in her last, Feeling Mischief, Starship Nala, and Bramble Berry will also attract action.
Tampa Bay Downs – Saturday, March 12
Grade 3 Florida Oaks – 1 1/16 miles turf – 3 year olds
The Florida Oaks is shaping up as one of the most competitive races of the week. Graham Motion trained Vergara might attract the most action. But Hail To from the Tom Albertrani barn and Claude McGaughey runner Skims will also garner some play. Chad Brown puts the saddle on Spicer. So expect that runner to go off no worse than fourth choice.
Grade 2 Hillsborough Stakes – 1 1/8 miles turf – 4 year olds and up
Roger Attfield trained Lady Speightspeare, and Chad Brown runner Kalifornia Queen figure to go off first choice and second choice. Brown’s other entrant, Bleecker Street, warrants a long look. The Quality Road sired miss won the Grade 3 Endeavour in her last start. Last out maiden winner Take Charge Ro could go off at overlay odds. The Bryan Lynch trained runner has gotten better with every race.
Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 3 year olds
Horseplayers will settle on making Todd Pletcher runner Major General, who took the Iroquois Stakes in his last, or Sam F. Davis winner Classic Causeway the chalk. Both look difficult to beat. Last out maiden winner Happy Boy Rocket, trained by Bill Mott, has the breeding and ran good enough to consider. But only back Happy if the odds are right.
Horse Racing in February:Grade 2 Azeri Stakes – 1 1/16 miles dirt – 4 year old fillies and mares
Based on the likely entrants, Shedaresthedevil, Brad Cox’s superstar filly, should easily take the Azeri Stakes. Pauline’s Pearl, She’s All Wolfe, Golden Curl, Lady Mystify, Ava’s Grace and Lavender should have no chance versus the Cox runner. However, pay attention to how Shedaresthedevil warms up. If the Cox equine isn’t feeling like herself, one of the underdogs could pull off the upset.
Santa Anita Park – Saturday, March 12
Grade 3 San Luis Rey Stakes – 1 ½ miles turf – 4 year olds and up
In conclusion, this year’s San Luis Rey is wide open. Say the Word, Acclimate, Current, Red King, Award Winner, Henley’s Joy, Dicey Mo Chara, Offlee Naughty, and Airman can all run to the winner’s circle. Gulfstream Park | Saturday, April 2
Grade 3 Orchid Stakes
1 ½ miles turf – 4 year old fillies and mares
Graham Motion trained Harajuku should attract plenty of action. A couple of other runners that should attract action are Champagne Ivey from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn, and Cristophe Clement trained Beautiful Lover. Scarabea, Lovely Lucky, and Family Way should also run.
Grade 2 Pan American Stakes
1 ½ miles turf – 4 year olds and up
Todd Pletcher saddles Abaan, a winner of 3 straight before finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida in the gelding’s last. The horse that won the Mac Diarmida, Temple, will also run in the Pan American. So will Shug McGaughey trained Baker’s Bay, Novo Sol from the Saffie Joseph Jr. barn, and Cristophe Clement trained and likely chalk Gufo.
Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks
1 1/6 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies
So far, only three horses are confirmed for the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks. Todd Pletcher trained Goddess of Fire finished second behind Turnerloose in the Grade 2 Rachel Alexandra in her last. Jonathan Thomas will put the saddle on last out maiden winner Catiche, and undefeated and Grade 2 Davona Dale winner Kathleen O. will go for trainer Shug McGaughey.
Grade 1 Florida Derby
1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds
At least ten 3 year olds will run in this year’s Florida Derby. No doubt, Saffie Joseph trained White Abbario will attract the most action. The Grade 3 Holy Bull winner is superfast. Simplification won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes in his last. Expect the Antonio Sano equine to also attract betting dollars. Charge It, trained by Todd Pletcher, Shipsational, Tamp Bay Derby winner Classic Causeway, and Pappacap may also enter the starting gate.
Oaklawn Park | Saturday, April 2
Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes
1 1/6 miles dirt – 3 year old fillies
Bob Baffert will put the saddle on likely Fantasy Stakes favorite Eda. The Munnings sired miss has won four straight, including the Grade 1 Starlet and the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel in her last. Brad Cox trained Bubble Rock heads into this after winning the Cincinnati Trophy. Cox has another contender in Mariah’s Fortune. Yuugiri and Dream Lith will be looking for bounce back efforts.
Grade 1 Arkansas Derby
1 1/8 miles dirt – 3 year olds
There is no stand out entered to run in this year’s Arkansas Derby. Kavod, Chasing Time, Barber Road, Un Ojo, D. Wayne Lukas trained Secret Oath, Ben Diesel, Cyberknife from the Brad Cox barn, and We the People all have a shot.
In conclusion, the most interesting is Doppelganger. The Into Mischief sired runner used to go for Bob Baffert. Now trained by Tim Yakteen, Doppelganger has a lot of talent. So if Yakteen can get him to run his best, Doppelganger can win the Arkansas Derby.
