Top Stakes Races Third Week of November: Saturday, November 18th – Sunday, November 19th, 2023

Kennedy Road Stakes | Grade 2

6 furlongs synthetic – 3-year-olds and up
Saturday, November 18th, 2023
Woodbine Racetrack, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Connections for top Kennedy Road contenders have yet to confirm their ponies will run in Saturday’s event. Before retiring, Pink Lloyd had dominated, winning the 2011 Kennedy Road, finishing third in 2020, and winning again in 2021.

Last year, Candy Overload took first place. Icy Chocolat and Lucky Score finished second and third. Because the Kennedy Road is for 3 year olds and up, the top three finishers from last year’s even could enter the gate for this year’s race.

Hill Prince Stakes | Grade 2

1 1/8 miles turf – 3 year olds
Saturday, November 18th, 2023
Belmont Park, Elmont, New York, United States

The weekend’s highest graded stakes has already attracted top talent. Todd Pletcher trained Classic Catch finished second in the Jockey Club Derby in the last. Before the JC Derby, the Classic Empire sired equine had won an allowance over Saratoga’s dirt and posted a massive speed rating.

Freedom Trail and Integration will attract action. Integration won the Grade 3 Virginia Derby in the last. Favoritism could fall one one of Chad Brown’s horses, either last out maiden winner Equitize or last out allowance winner I’m Very Busy.

Chilukki Stakes | Grade 3

1 mile dirt – 3 year old and 4 year old fillies
Saturday, November 18th, 2023
Churchill Downs, Louisville, Kentucky, United States

Nostalgic, third in the Grade 2 Beldame in the last, is a serious contender. Last November, the Bill Mott trained and Godolphin owned daughter of Medaglia d’Oro finished second behind Battle Bling in the Grade 3 Turnback The Alarm stakes over the Aqueduct dirt.

W. Bret Calhoun trained Hidden Connection should go off the chalk. In her last two races, Hidden Connection finished second behind Falconet and Search Results.

Oeuvre, She Can’t Sing, the aforementioned Falconet, Be Like Water, and Hot and Sultry should also run. Falconet will have to bounce back from a bad seventh place finish in the Grade 3 Locust Grove in the last to contend. Keep that in mind as you handicap this event.

Bob Hope Stakes | Grade 3

7 furlongs dirt – 2 year olds
Sunday, November 19th, 2023
Del Mar Racetrack, Del Mar, California, United States

Only 2 have confirmed for the Grade 3 Bob Hope. Neither of the two runners will go off the favorite.

Both are maiden winners. Stronghold, trained by Phil D’Amato, broke the maiden at Churchill Downs. Tejon Pass, trained by Peter Miller, broke the maiden at Santa Anita.

Both could run well, but Bob Baffert, for sure, should enter at least 2 of his top 3-year-olds. Bob’s entries will attract the most action.
