Distance and Surface: 1 ¼ miles on dirt
Purse: $6,000,000

BC Classic Pace Based on Projected Field

With the projected field for race up to the moment, we should expect a decent pace. Arabian Knight will try and steal it on the front end. Proxy, White Abbario, Arcangelo, Practical Move, and Derma Sotogake won’t be far behind.

National Treasure also likes to run close to the pace. So does Bright Future. Geaux Rocket Ride and Zandon will be closing.

Early 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic Picks

Win: Geaux Rocket Ride +700

Geaux Rocket Ride hails from the Richard Mandella barn. That alone makes the second place finisher in the Pacific Classic the horse to watch.

When the Breeders’ Cup takes place at Santa Anita, Richard Mandella tends to win multiple races. This year, Mandella’s lone entrant in any BC race could end up Geaux Rocket Ride, which means Mandella will really want to win the Classic.

Not only that, but the pace should flatter Ride’s closing kick. White Abbario and Arabian Knight should go head-to-head for the lead. Geaux Rocket Ride almost caught Arabian Knight in the Pacific Classic after soft fractions. The Mandella runner is formidable.

Place: Arcangelo +350

Arcangelo can sit close to the pace or come from the clouds. In the BC Classic, the Travers winner figures to track White Abbario and Arabian Knight

For sure, Arcangelo will put both those runners away in the stretch. Ah, but once Arcangelo gets the lead, he may relax, which will open the door for Geaux Rocket Ride to sneak by him. The race will come down to those two, Ride and Arc.

So if you believe the Mandella runner doesn’t get by, back the chalk because he’s the most talented horse in the race.

Show: White Abbario +1000

The Richard Dutrow trainee should outwork Arabian Knight for third place money. However, the Whitney Stakes winner won’t hold off Arcangelo or Geaux Rocket Ride.

Third place money isn’t bad, though. So Dutrow, who returned from a decade long suspension this year, will be happy.

Breeders’ Cup Third Place Pick: White Abbario +100 | Bet White Abbario to Win Breeders’ Cup

Fourth Place: Arabian Knight +600

The Baffert runner has a lot of upside. However, Arabian Knight got an easy lead in the P. Classic and was all out to hold off Geaux Rocket Ride.

Not only that, but this is a deep BC Classic field. Fourth place for the three-year-old should be the ceiling.

Top Longshot Play: Zandon +2500

If you don’t like the odds on Geaux Rocket Ride but want to back a closer, consider throwing money behind Chad Brown trained Zandon. The Woodward Stakes winner can take home the top prize.

It all depends on pace and trip. So, maybe, at 25-to-1 Zandon is the play ahead of Geaux Rocket Ride.

After all, in the Sport of Kings, the best way to score big money is when long shots cross the finish line first. 2019 Breeders’ Cup Friday – Nov. 1

Friday is all about the youngsters. Juveniles and juvenile fillies take to the Santa Anita track to end their freshman campaigns a champion. Check out Friday’s races!

Juvenile Turf Sprint

  • Time: 4:12pm EDT
  • Age: 2 year olds
  • Distance: 5 furlongs
  • Surface: Turf

The fastest young horses on grass try to prove they’ve got what it takes to become a champion. Don’t pound chalk in the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Last year, the $2 trifecta paid $2,905.40.

Juvenile Turf

  • Time: 4:52pm EDT
  • Age: 2 year old
  • Distance: 1 mile
  • Surface: Turf

What future grass running stars will emerge from the Juvenile Turf? It’s always a good idea to key in on a horse trained by either Chad Brown, Saeed Bin Suroor, or Aidan O’Brien. Bettors pounded Line of Duty down from a 6/1 morning line to 7/2 last year. He didn’t disappoint!

Juvenile Fillies

  • Time: 5:32pm EDT
  • Age/Gender: 2 year old fillies
  • Distance: 1 1/16 miles
  • Surface: Dirt

This year’s Juvenile Fillies, no doubt, will enter 2020 as the favorite to win the Kentucky Oaks. Will it be a Bob Baffert trainee, a horse from Todd Pletcher’s barn, or some other runner?

Juvenile Fillies Turf

  • Time: 6:12pm EDT
  • Age/Gender: 2 year old fillies
  • Distance: 1 mile
  • Surface: Dirt

Chad Brown has a way with turf runners. He might be the best turf trainer in the United States. He’s truly capable with turf fillies and turf mares. If one, or two, or three Brown runners show up in this race on Friday, pay attention.

Juvenile

  • Time: 7:03pm EDT
  • Age: 2 year old
  • Distance: 1 1/6 miles
  • Surface: Dirt

Every year, the Breeders’ Cup showcases the next year’s top Kentucky Derby contenders in the BC Juvenile.  In 2018, Game Winner became a Juvenile winner and the pre-season Kentucky Derby favorite.

2019 Breeders’ Cup Saturday – Nov. 2

Friday is for 2-year-olds. Saturday is for champions. Watch the best horses in the world compete on the biggest day in horse racing. Check out Saturday’s lineup of races!

Filly & Mare Sprint

  • Time: 2:55pm EDT
  • Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
  • Distance: 7 furlongs
  • Surface: Dirt

The Filly & Mare Sprint can provide giant payouts. The reason? Unlike the BC Sprint, the Filly & Mare Sprint is run at 7 furlongs. It takes a horse with both speed and stamina to win this race.

Turf Sprint

  • Time: 3:33pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 5 furlongs
  • Surface: Turf

A long shot almost always wins the BC Turf Sprint. Don’t settle on a favorite in one of the hardest to handicap races of the day.

Dirt Mile

  • Time: 4:10pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 1 Mile
  • Surface: Dirt

Favorites have performed well in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. Will likely chalk Omaha Beach keep the favorite’s streak alive? Or, will an underdog upset him on Saturday?

Filly & Mare Turf

  • Time: 4:54pm EDT
  • Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
  • Distance: 1 ¼ miles
  • Surface: Turf

This year’s race could be wide-open unless last year’s winner, Sistercharlie, comes with her “A” game. Always pay attention to any runner Godolphin, or Aidan O’Brien, sends to the starting gate.

Sprint

  • Time: 5:36pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 6 furlongs
  • Surface: Dirt

The fastest horse doesn’t always win this race. The first quarter-mile could be sub 21 seconds. Do your handicapping before settling on Mitole, the likely favorite.

Mile

  • Time: 6:20pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 1 Mile
  • Surface: Turf

The Breeders’ Cup Mile almost always produces a huge longshot winner. Unless a Wise Dan, who dominated the Mile in his day, emerges, this race should be one of the toughest to handicap. And…one of the most rewarding if you find the winner.

Distaff

  • Time: 7:00pm EDT
  • Age/Gender: 3+, fillies/mares
  • Distance: 1 1/8 miles
  • Surface: Dirt

It’s hard to see any contender beating the great Midnight Bisou. If a horse does upset her and you had that horse? Cha-ching!

Turf

  • Time: 7:40pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 1 ½ miles
  • Surface: Turf

Most feel the 2019 BC Turf is a match race between the Chad Brown trained Bricks and Mortar and the Aidan O’Brien trained Magical. Will those two champions duke it out for top honors? Or, will a huge long shot upset the favored pair?

Classic

  • Time: 8:44pm EDT
  • Age: 3+
  • Distance: 1 ¼ miles
  • Surface: Dirt

Although only 11 horses are scheduled to race in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, not a single one of the 11 has a huge advantage over their rivals. The Breeders’ Cup Classic could be the most competitive race on Saturday.

Break out your handicapping pens because the 2019 Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships is here!
