Churchill Downs Picks for Saturday, June 6

Race 8 – 4:46 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $100,000 Aristides Stakes

Volatile is the 2/1 morning line chalk. We’re not fans of backing chalk, but in this case, it’s hard to look past the Steve Asmussen trained son of Violence. Volatile has 3 wins and a second from 4 lifetime races. The 4-year-old colt breaks on the outside, giving jockey Ricardo Santana a leg up on the competition. Expect Volatile to track and then pounce.

Manny Wah has come into his own. The Will Take Charge sired runner finished third in the Grade 3 Count Fleet Stakes in his last after offering close to 75/1 to win. Wah ran up the rail to finish in the trifecta. Expect jockey Corey Lanerie to try for another rail run on Saturday.

Bobby’s Wicked One has 5 wins and 2 seconds from 9 races at the distance. He’s the pure speed play in this stakes. Can Bobby take these gate-to-wire? Absolutely, he can. So, consider for all slots in your exotics.

  • Win: Volatile
  • Place: Manny Wah
  • Show: Bobby’s Wicked One

Race 9 – 5:18 pm ET – 5 ½ Furlongs Turf – $81,000 Allowance

Another sired by Violence, High Crime could improve off the 4-year old colt’s last, a ninth place finish in a 6 ½ furlong dirt race at Churchill on May 23. The Darrin Miller trained equine hadn’t raced since August 2019. Although High Crime doesn’t have a turf win, he does have a second and third from a couple of races on the lawn. If he’s feeling better after a tune-up, he should show his best, which would be good enough to win this.

Tohui heads into this off a maiden score. However, the Luis Jurado trained runner finished second in his first two lifetime races. All three races have happened over the grass and at 5 ½ furlongs. Tohui may be the speed of the speed.

Wesley Ward trained Alfie Solomons broke his maiden in a 6 ½ furlong grass sprint and then failed in a 5 furlong stakes race at Santa Anita. Awesome works leading up to this signal Solomons could hang on for a piece.

  • Win: High Crime
  • Place: Tohui
  • Show: Alfie Solomons

Race 10 – 5:50 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – $100,000 Grade 3 Dogwood Stakes

John Sadler trained Edgeway is a talented horse. The 3-year-old filly has 2 wins and a third from 3 lifetime races. She’s worked great over Churchill’s dirt and breaks to the outside of her competition. Jockey Tyler Baze aboard Edeway can see what Julien Leparoux does aboard Four Graces.

Without a doubt, Four Graces is the one to beat.  The Ian Wilkes trained 4-year-old filly ran awesome when winning a $75,000 optional claimer going 7 furlongs at Oaklawn on May 16. She should round out the chalky exacta.

Bayerness bombed in the Grade 2 Davona Dale in her last. That race happened in February. Since then, she’s shown 10 works, 6 of which were bullets. Don’t discount this one’s chances to win.

  • Win: Edeway
  • Place: Four Graces
  • Show: Bayerness
