Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, May 15

Race 2 – 1:35 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $10,000 Starter Optional Claiming

Jockey Victor Lebron gets the call aboard Benny Cadahia trained Travy Boy. Cadahia wins 3% at the meet. He wins 4% for the year. But, so far, he’s made Tavy Boy a contender. The Gemologist sired gelding has a win and second in two races for Cadahia. Travy could get lost in the betting.

Horseplayers figure to jump all over Take Charge Dude. 24% winning trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. puts the saddle on while top jockey Luis Saez rides. Dude couldn’t beat Travy Boy in the last. That won’t deter the Dude’s fans, meaning this one goes off an underlay again.

Jockey Miguel Vesquez figures to get a nice trip aboard Killa Dee. Vasquez can place Dee behind Travy Boy and Take Charge Dude. The Yes It’s True sired colt has a shot. We just feel Travy Boy and Take Charge Dude are better.

  • Win: Travy Boy
  • Place: Take Charge Dude
  • Show: Killa Dee

Race 8 – 4:48 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt –$30,000 Claiming

Last out maiden winners are often bad bets first time against winners. That could be the case with Bibiana. But we can’t look past her trainer’s stats. Jose D’Angelo wins 38% first after the claim. D’Angelo has also won with 3-of-4 last-out maiden winners and 1-of-3 third off a layoff runners. What completes the package? Bibiana ran awesome to break the maiden. She’s got a big shot and should offer overlay odds.

In her first race for Saffie Joseph Jr., Customerexperience ran awful. The Cairo Prince sired 3-year-old filly finished sixth by 17 lengths. She should bounce back with a top effort on Friday, though. Saffie drops her from $50,000 optional claiming to this straight claiming $30,000 event. Also, there’s enough speed in this to set up her closing kick.

Luis Saez will try to take Dancing Destroyer gate-to-wire. The Jimmy Creed sired 4-year-old miss finished second in her last race. She goes first time for trainer Enrique Landaeta. Enrique has a winner from just 9 starters this year. It will be tough for Dancing Destroyer to win this. Fading to third makes more sense.

  • Win: Bibiana
  • Place: Customerexperience
  • Show: Dancing Destroyer

Race 10 – 5:49 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Dirt – $75,000 Hollywood Wildcat Stakes

Trainer Claude McGhaugey saddles Medaglia d’Oro sired Vigilante’s Way. The top choice runs in the Hollywood Wildcat Stakes after breaking her maiden at Tampa in her last. Jockey Edgar Zayas could take the lead and play catch me if you can. No other runner should.

Cheermeister goes turf-to-dirt for trainer Armando De La Cerda. The multiple Grade 3 winner has won 4-of-6. She could get overplayed in this spot, though. Cheermeister is a front runner like the top the choice. The difference? The Bodemeister sired filly must prove her front running speed is as effective over the dirt.

Undefeated in 3 starts, Up in Smoke figures to go off the chalk. Luis Saez sticks while trainer George Weaver wins 33% at the meet. The Big Beast sired runner should have no trouble stretching out. But the odds should to be too short to place on top.

  • Win: Vigilante’s Way
  • Place: Cheermeister
  • Show: Up in Smoke
