2016 Preakness Stakes Field

Show – Stradivari

Simple and plain, Stradivari in the kind of ‘X-factor’ thoroughbred that could upset the entire apple cart at the Preakness! The Todd Pletcher-trained colt has won two consecutive races and has the kind of explosiveness that it will take to beat the undefeated Nyquist. Despite the lack of experience, Stradivari is well-rested, having not run in the Kentucky Derby. While I’ve got this mount finishing third, the fact of the matter is that Stradivari could finish second – or even end Nyquist’s chances for the Triple Crown.

Place – Exaggerator

Exaggerator finished second at the Kentucky Derby and I’ve got this three-year-old doing likewise at the Preakness, though he’ll have to beat out Stradivari in order to do so. Exaggerator has finished no worse than second in four of his last five races while winning a pair of those runs. Sure, he’s yet to beat Nyquist, but not many horses have beaten out Exaggerator either.

Win – Nyquist

What else is there to say about the undefeated Nyquist that hasn’t already been said? With the Preakness Stakes being a shorter distance than the Kentucky Derby, this race is set up perfectly for Nyquist to win. Nyquist is the most athletic and explosive thoroughbred in the field ad will undoubtedly be difficult to beat, just as I predicted he would be at Churchill Downs. Reports this week say that Nyquist is in fine form in the days leading up to the Preakness and that trainer Doug O’Neill is pleased with his horse’s workouts and demeanor. Nyquist is unbeaten in eight races and he’ll make it nine in a row by winning the 2016 Preakness Stakes!
