Horse Racing Picks for Tampa Bay Downs on March 25
Race 4 – 2:15 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – Claiming $25,000
Top Tampa Bay Downs jockey Antonio Gallardo picks up the mount aboard 5/2 Horse Racing Odds chalk Astute Warrior. Darien Rodriguez has excellent stats for this race situation: 40% winners 90+ days away, 22% with shippers, and 30% with claimers. Also, Warrior appears to be the top closer in a race with plenty of speed.
Bunster goes first-time for trainer Michael Campbell. That’s not a winning move. But the Temple City sired 4-year-old colt gets Daniel Centeno to ride and should get a nice spot outside of My Cowboy and Last Promise.
Those two figure to go guns blazing right out of the gate. My Cowboy is much preferred. The Anthony Rini runner has 2 wins and a second from its last 3. Also, Last Promise’s best races have happened on dirt.
- Win: Astute Warrior
- Place: Bunster
- Show: My Cowboy
Race 5 – 2:46 pm ET – 7 Furlongs Dirt – Allowance OC $32,000
For the win money, it’s tough to look past Create Again. The 5-year-old gelding lost by 13 lengths in its last, a $60,000 stakes on the turf. This is on dirt, though. In addition, Create Again has speed and should love this 7-furlong distance. The runner should also hold the 9/2 morning line.
Town Classic has a win and 2 second-place finishes in 3 races at Tampa Bay Downs. 24% winning trainer Gerald Bennett puts on the saddle. Bennett wins 26% with horses going second-time for him. Town Classic figures to get a nice trip right on Create Again’s throat latch. But the price won’t be good enough for a win bet. So, let’s place second.
My Boy Lenny, the 2/1 morning line favorite, shows sensational works. There’s nothing to dislike in the past performances. Because Darien Rodriguez is 38% first after the claim, though, we’re dreaming if we think the 2/1 odds will hold. Must pass for the win.
- Win: Create Again
- Place: Town Classic
- Show: My Boy Lenny
Race 8 – 4:18 pm ET – 1 Mile Turf – Maiden Claiming $16,000
There are lots of ways to go in this $16,000 maiden claimer to close out Wednesday’s card. 5/1 Horse Racing Odds on the morning line Miss Wrote has the most upside. After losing by 41 lengths in her first-lifetime race, she bounced back with a solid second-race performance. Miss Wrote opened up by 11 ½ lengths at the second call only to lose by 1 ½ lengths at the end. That race was at 1 1/6 miles, though. This is at 1 mile. She can track Nerissa or go gate-to-wire.
Biz Maker lost by a head in her last race. The daughter of Fed Biz dropped from $32K claimers to this $16,000 level. She could improve in her second-race at this level. Also, jockey Pablo Morales sticks.
Nerissa will attempt to steal Miss Wrote’s front-running thunder. She might. Trainer Jordan Blair is winning at 29% while Nerissa heads into this off a couple of sprint races. However, she’s in awful form, having lost her last 3 by a combined 15 ½ lengths. If her form turns around, she probably gets third. If it doesn’t, she’ll finish off the board.
- Win: Miss Wrote
- Place: Biz Maker
- Show: Nerissa
