2019 Preakness Stakes Betting Strategies

Written by on May 18, 2019

Strategies to win money on the Preakness Stakes are comparable to the strategies we published to win money on the Kentucky Derby. There some differences, though. Like all strategies, it’s important to do your research, pick the strategy that works for you and stick to it. Changing strategies the day of the race could lead to disaster. So be sure what Preakness Stakes odds to choose before placing your bets.

2019 Preakness Stakes Betting Strategies

Strategy #1 – Build Tickets Around the Chalk

Right now, the chalk is the Bob Baffert trained Improbable. He’s looked great on the racetrack, Baffert has won the Preakness 7 times, and he’s one of the more accomplished horses in the field. He didn’t run all that well in the Kentucky Derby, though. Not only that, but the Preakness appears deep. Make sure your ultra-confident in Improbable before using this strategy.

Strategy #2 – Drop War of Will and Improbable From All Exotics

The two favorites are War of Will and Improbable. You could decide to do a strategy where you drop both favorites from all your exotic wagers. This strategy makes some sense. Neither War of Will nor Improbable have won their last two races. War of Will might have had an excuse in the Derby. Or, he might have not been good enough. Improbable doesn’t seem to have any excuse for his Derby run.

In any case, using this strategy could ensure huge payouts if you make winning wagers.

Strategy #3 – Key Alwaysmining or Anothertwistafate in all Exotic Wagers

Alwaysmining has won 7 races in a row. He doesn’t face any world beaters while he should hold his +650 odds to win because of his lesser known connections. Kelly Rubley is a great trainer in Maryland at Tampa Bay Downs. Daniel Centeno is a great jockey, but he rides at Tampa Bay Downs and at Laurel Park. Many horseplayers don’t know who Daniel Centeno is.

If nobody thought he could win the race, his odds would be around +1000. The fact he’s at +650 means many serious horseplayers believe he has a shot.

The same goes for Anothertwistafate. His odds should be around +1000 or higher if horseplayers didn’t think he had a shot to win. Use whichever one of the two choices to win after Improbable and War of Will as your key horse.

Strategy #4 – Go With Frontrunners/Pressers or All Closers

Pimlico’s got some seriously tight turns. Because of the tight turns, frontrunners/pressers often fair much better than closers. That’s not always the case, though.

If you consider the frontrunners/pressers strategy, the horses you will use in your exotics are Alwaysmining, Anothertwistafate, Bodexpress, Market King, Improbable, War of Will, Signalman and Warrior’s Exchange.

If you decide to go with a closers strategy, you’ll use Bourbon War, Laughing Fox, Owendale, and Win Win Win. Whether you go with the frontrunners/pressers, or closers strategy, make sure to do your own handicapping. Also, make sure you’ve got a real reason why you’re using this strategy.

There you have it! Four strategies that you could use to make big bucks on the Preakness Stakes. Handicap the race yourself before making any wagers

Good luck!
