Churchill Downs Picks for Saturday, June 13

Race 8 – 4:46 pm ET – 5 ½ Furlongs Turf – $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Mike Maker trained Even Beat almost caught Hidden Facts to pick up second in her last race. For some reason, though, Hidden Facts is at 3/1 to win this while Even Beat is at 8/1. We’ll make the 5-year-old mare our top choice. If she stays out of trouble, she can upset the field.

Hidden Facts pressed a fast-pace and then held on for second by half a length in her last race. She’s a serious contender to win this. Facts must prevent from getting into a speed duel with Reenie D, though.

The speed of the speed, Reenie D has two wins and a third from 4 races. She should get the lead. Jockey James Graham must ration her speed to have any shot at the win.

  • Win: Even Beat
  • Place: Hidden Facts
  • Show: Reenie D

Race 10 – 5:50 pm ET – 6 ½ Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming

Steve Asmussen could have his next great filly runner in Scolding. The Carpe Diem sired 3-year-old filly broke her maiden at first asking. It’s not that she ran fast. It’s how she won. Scolding relaxed about a head behind a front runner. When the jockey pushed the go button, she took off like a rocket. Scolding has big shot to take her first against winners.

Miss T Too is super-fast. The Bill Mott trained miss must break from the rail and duel with the other speed, though. We have to assume Scolding sits right off Miss T Too. Unless Miss T Too digs dip, she won’t hold off the talented Asmussen runner.

Shadilee had a nice race in her last. We must assume that trainer Mike Maker used that race to get Shadilee back into the swing of things. She’s a talented filly who can hang with these on her best day. If she keeps anything close to the 15/1 morning line, consider for the win.

  • Win: Scolding
  • Place: Miss T Too
  • Show: Shadilee

Race 11 – 6:22 pm ET – 1 ½ Miles Turf – $100,000 G3 Louisville Stakes

We’ll try to beat chalk Arklow with Admission’s Office. The Brian Lynch trained 5-year-old horse picks up jockey Julien Leparoux for the Louisville Stakes try. Julien is fantastic on horses that run on any surface. He’s got a knack for getting turf runners to show their best for sure. Admission’s Office finished second in a Grade 2  a couple of races back. The last race, a low-level stakes. was a warmup for this.

Brad Cox trained Arklow is as solid as they come. The 8/5 morning line favorite has 2 wins and 2 seconds from 7 lifetime at this distance. Expect Arklow to finish in the exacta. We’d play to win if we weren’t positive the odds will be underlaid.

Tiz a Slam should round out the chalky trifecta. The front runner could go gate-to-wire if neither Arklow nor Admission’s Office is at the top of their games. If you want to take a shot with your win money, back Tiz a Slam because he should offer better odds than Arklow or Admission’s Office.

  • Win: Admission’s Office
  • Place: Arklow
  • Show: Tiz a Slam
