Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, June 12

Race 1 – 1:34 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf – $12,500 Claiming

It will be tough to prevent Keep Quiet from winning this race. A first time runner for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., Keep Quiet has 2 wins and 5 seconds from 9 races at this distance. Saffie drops the Elusive City sired 6-year-old gelding from $16,000 claimers. Joseph Jr. wins 35% first off the claim.

Driven By Thunder could get into the exacta. Trainer Amador Sanchez wins 21% going dirt to turf. The last time Sanchez tried that move with Thunder, the gelding delivered with a 2 ¾ length win going a mile over the turf in a $62,500 optional claimer. Sanchez drops Driven By Thunder from $20,000 claiming into this.

Baseline hasn’t raced on the turf in over a year. The record isn’t fantastic, 2 wins from 11 races. Also, trainer Joseph Taylor raises the 6-year-old gelding up in class. Those are the knocks. The positive? Baseline has won 3 in a row. So, don’t be surprised if the front runner hangs on to complete the try. If the race washes off the turf, Baseline becomes the top pick.

  • Win: Keep Quiet
  • Place: Driven By Thunder
  • Show: Baseline

Race 8  – 3:41 pm ET – 1 1/16 Miles Turf –$62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming

Friday’s feature may also wash off the turf. Whether that happens or not, we won’t change our horse racing pick to win. Why? We like Todd Pletcher trained Almashriq. The race could set up for the Pletcher runner. He’s bred to love both the stretch out from 7 furlongs and the slop. In a way, this one washing off the turf may help us.

That’s because Overdeliver will enter if it goes to the main track. The Saffie Joseph Jr. runner is 2/1 on the morning line. If this become a main track race, he’s the second choice. If not, go with High Noon Rider for second. Rider is another Saffie Joseph Jr. runner. He entered both just in case he had to scratch one.

It feels like dealer’s choice for third without knowing if the race stays on dirt. Hit the all button for third.

  • Win: Almashriq
  • Place: High Noon Rider – turf / Overdeliver – dirt
  • Show: All

Race 9 – 4:13 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $50,000 Claiming

Michael Lerman trained Money Ride has a win, a second, and a third from 3 races on the slop. Money Ride is the pick no matter if it’s dry or muddy on Friday. He’s in great form and moves up in class to a level where he’s had success.

Goldmine Cat’s form is awful. But the Mark Casse runner has yet to race over dirt. Casse also gelded this one after its last. We’re willing to take a chance the dropper gets into the try. Goldmine’s breeding suggests it can race well in the slop.

Ricki Ticki Taffi failed miserably in the colt’s lone muddy race. However, that was also Taffi’s first lifetime race. The Oscar Gonzalez trained runner could lead these gate-to-wire. Don’t hesitate to back on top if the top two choices fail to impress you.

  • Win: Money Ride
  • Place: Goldmine’s Cat
  • Show: Ricki Ticki Taffi
