Race 5 – 3:11 pm ET – 1 Mile Dirt – $16,000 Claiming
5/2 on the morning line Stone Hands finished ninth by 41 lengths in its last. The 6-year-old gelding takes a massive drop from optional claiming $25,000 to this open claiming $16,000 event. That’s the first positive. The second? Luis Saez takes the call and Hands should be lone speed.
Dizzy Gillespie is an awesome equine. The Peter Walder trained runner has 11 wins from 39 races. Gillespie has blown his horn to the tune of a 7-4-4 record from 24 races over Gulfstream’s dirt. Don’t sleep on Dizzy getting it done. So, consider for the top spot if the odds on Stone Hands drop too far below the morning line.
Trainer Monica McGoey puts the saddle on Be Gone Daddy. The closer takes a steep class drop. However, the gelding’s last running line says, “passed tired horses”. That makes it hard to put Daddy on top in this pace challenged field.

Race 7 – 4:15 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt –$32,000 Starter Optional Claiming
There’s a lot of speed in this race. That should set things up nicely for early-presser Valid Quest. Trainer Mike Maker takes over for Steve Asmussen. Quest gets a cozy outside draw and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. is back to his dominating ways.
Unprecedented heads into this off a maiden score. The Bayern sired 3-year-old gelding broke the maiden while racing inside and dueling on the front-end. There is other speed. Unprecedented might be the speed of the speed.
Signs point to Maserati Man running great on Thursday. The Michael Yates trainee finished second by a neck in a $50,000 optional claimer in its last. The class drop helps. But Yates puts this one up for the claim. That makes us wary about putting Maserati on top.

Race 9 – 5:17 pm ET – 6 Furlongs Dirt – $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming
There’s a reason to expect Pacific Gale improves big time off the awful April 11 run. As the favorite, Gale showed good speed before backpedaling and finishing eighth by 19 lengths. Once jockey Luis Saez knew she couldn’t win, he let her relax and take it easy. Saez sticks, which is a great sign. Another good sign? Gale worked 3-furlongs in 36.1 on May 10.
Violent Times will try to take these gate-to-wire. The 2/1 morning line chalk has the best early speed. But the front runner hasn’t won since last August. That race was also over the turf. Times should hang on for second. Because of the expected odds, it’s tough to put the mare on top.
Jorge Delgado trained Day by Day has 4 second place finishes and a win her last 5. That makes her a contender. But before mortgaging the house, realize that all those races were in lower class level events. Also, the 6-year-old mare heads into this off a lifetime best speed rating. She could bounce. Hopefully, she won’t bounce out of the trifecta.
