Last Season

Georgia was ranked No. 5 last year and Kentucky unranked when the Dawgs won 14-3 in Lexington, UGA’s 11th straight win in the series. Zamir White rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, and QB Stetson Bennett also ran for a score. Bennett completed 9 of 13 passes for 131 yards with two interceptions. Georgia’s 215 yards on the ground nearly outgained the Wildcats’ total yardage (229). Chris Rodriguez rushed 20 times for 108 yards for Kentucky, which only managed Matt Ruffolo’s 34-yard field goal.

Georgia leads the Kentucky series 60-12-2 and the 11-game winning streak is its longest in the series. Kentucky’s last win came in 2009 in Athens when it stormed back from a 20-6 halftime deficit for a 34-27 win.

Why Bet on Kentucky?

Kentucky is 6-0 for the first time since 1950, when Bear Bryant led the Wildcats to their lone SEC title. This team is already guaranteed to make a school-record sixth straight bowl appearance.

UK dominated LSU 42-21 last week. Cats QB Will Levis accounted for three second-half scores alone as Kentucky pulled away to a 35-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Penn State transfer sandwiched TD passes of 25, 11 and 3 yards between rushing scores of 5 and 1 yards as the Wildcats outgained the Tigers 475-408, though much of LSU’s yardage came after the game was out of reach.

Sophomore RB Christopher Rodriguez Jr. rushed 16 times for 147 yards and had a 3-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter to open the scoring. And his 18-yard scoring scamper with 4:23 to go in the fourth quarter put a cap on the scoring, making it 42-21. Fellow RB Kavosiey Smoke had a career-high 104 rushing yards on 12 attempts. The Wildcats were tremendous were tremendous with 329 rushing yards and three touchdowns, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt.

Top UK wideout Josh Ali is doubtful for this game with an undisclosed injury. That is a big loss for the Wildcats because Ali is the team’s second-leading receiver so far with 17 catches for 248 yards and a touchdown. Only Wan’Dale Robinson has been more productive for Kentucky.

Kentucky is seeking a 7-0 start for the first time since 1950 and just the fifth time in history (1910, 1903, 1898), as well as its first win over a No. 1 team since 2007. UK is 3-14 all-time vs. No. 1 teams.

Why Bet on Georgia?

The Dawgs rose to No. 1 in the new polls this week for the first time since spending one week there in 2008. They are also national championship favorites following former No. 1 Alabama’s upset loss to Texas A&M last Saturday.

Georgia (6-0) had little trouble in Week 7 with a 34-10 win over No. 18 Auburn. Senior quarterback Stetson Bennet went 14-for-21 with 231 yards and two touchdowns, while junior tailback Zamir White led the team with 80 yards rushing on 18 carries. Bennett’s go-to receiver was freshman Ladd McConkey, who tallied career-best five catches for 135 yards, and a touchdown.

Bennett has started the past two games and three overall this year because usual starter JT Daniels is injured. It doesn’t sound like Daniels will play here. The second-year transfer from USC has played nine of 24 possible quarters this season on account of injuries believed to be related to an accidental hit he took to his pec muscle in the team’s Aug. 21 scrimmage.

Former West Virginia All-American safety Tykee Smith, who had foot surgery in August, made his Georgia debut in the win over Auburn last Saturday. He recorded three tackles in the limited time he spent at the “star” position in the secondary. Smith developed a reputation as a force in run support, something that would come in handy against a physical Wildcats team that features the SEC’s leading rusher in Chris Rodriguez.

Sophomore receiver Jermaine Burton (groin) sat out the Auburn win but should play. He has 13 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns on the season, with his biggest game on the year coming in Week 2 against UAB when he went for 3/92/1.

Georgia leads the nation in Scoring Defense giving up just 5.5 points per game. The Bulldogs are averaging 39.8 points/game. Georgia opponents have scored just 33 points in 2021. That six-game tally is the lowest since 1935 when the Bulldogs had allowed just 24 points through six contests. The Bulldogs lead the country in Total Defense, giving up just 201.2 yards/game.
