From Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.
This is the first game for both teams, as the College Football season is underway! The Blue Raiders are coming into the season riding high after their 8-5 season a year ago. They won the Hawaii Bowl with a thriller 25-23 over San Diego State.
The Blue Raiders are members of Conference USA, where they went 4-4 a season ago—the season started rough for Middle Tennessee last season, as they were smashed on the road at James Madison.
For Alabama, they went 11-2, with a 6-2 SEC record. The Crimson Tide won the Sugar Bowl with a 45-20 thrashing over Kansas State. This will be the 17th season for head coach Nick Saban with the Crimson Tide.
The last time these teams met, the Alabama Crimson Tide won 37-10 over Middle Tennessee. That game was played on September 12, 2015. The college football odds has Alabama Crimson Tide as a masssive favorite of -39 over Middle Tennessee. The total for the game is listed at 51.5 points.

Blue Raiders New Look
Middle Tennessee will look to keep the football in their possession as often as possible but will need to be better at running it than a season ago. Last year, the Blue Raiders were one of the worst rushing teams in the nation. They ran for only 108.8 yards per game.
The good news is – Frank Peasant is back for the Blue Raiders. He was the top running back a season ago, with 774 yards and nine touchdowns. The offensive line spent the off-season preparing to be able to run the football more.
The quarterback for the Blue Raiders is new. Chase Cunningham is gone after throwing all 21 touchdowns a season ago. Middle Tennessee will turn to redshirt sophomore Nicholas Vattiato as he is thrown to the wolves with the Crimson Tide in Game 1.

Saban and the Tide on a Mission
There is no doubt that Alabama has not loved seeing their conference rival, Georgia, win back-to-back titles. That gives the Crimson Tide plenty of motivation coming into the season.
The Crimson Tide have two new transfers in their offensive starting lineup, including CJ Dippre at tight end. Jalen Milroe will get the start ahead of Tyler Buchner. Milroe was the backup a season ago and could throw 53 passes, and five of them went for touchdowns.
Gone are Bryce Young and Jahmyr Gibbs from last season. Jase McClellan will get the nod at running back. The Senior picked up 655 yards and seven touchdowns a season ago as the backup for Gibbs.
The passing game should be productive for the Crimson Tide again if Milroe can find his groove. His top two receivers from a season ago both return. Jermaine Burton and Ja’Corey Brooks combined for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns a season ago while catching 79 passes. That should be a lethal connection when the Crimson Tide looks to air the football out downfield.

Cover Likely in the Opener
This is not much of a college football game. The total is so low, comparable to the spread.
The oddsmakers are looking at a 45-7 type result in favor of the Crimson Tide. If that were the result, the Blue Raiders would cover the spread.
With the new rules in College Football and knowing Saban does not need to slam on the gas in Week 1, taking Middle Tennessee and the points is not a bad wager here. Enjoy the game!
