2017 MLB Expert Predictions Colorado At San Diego

Written by on June 2, 2017

There are some teams in the MLB who you expect to be poor every single year, simply because there seems to be very little attempt on the part of management to change direction. Then there are teams who are not very good, but who are clearly making an attempt to do something better. Two teams on either side of that equation will hook up this weekend when the Colorado Rockies head to San Diego for a 3-game series. The Padres have not been very good for a while now, and there is little reason for hope that they are about to improve, at least not this season. They will be going up against a team who have been mediocre in recent season, but who have made some moves intended to improve their lot, and to this point in the season, those changes are working. These two teams have actually matched up well this season, splitting the 6 games that they have played so far. Find the latest MLB betting run lines here.

Why bet on the Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies (34-22) have been a very pleasant surprise this season, but they also know that they need to remain consistently good if they are to keep pace in a tight division battle. The top of the NL West is occupied by the Rockies, but only a half game separates them from the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers, and it looks as though it may well be that tight all season long. The Rockies had a bit of a poor week, losing 3 of 4 to the Mariners, but they at least were able to avoid the sweep and regain top spot in the division with the win in the final game. Colorado are a stellar 19-9 on the road, so look for them to shine in San Diego. Tyler Chatwood (4-7, 5.04 ERA) will start.

Why bet on the San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres (22-33) have not been very good this season, but they have been showing some signs of life this week, winning 4 games in a row. They will have taken some real pride in beating the defending World Series champions in a 3-game sweep, but will also be well aware that one series does not a season make. The Padres are 7-3 in their last 10 games, and have finally pulled themselves off the bottom of the NL West, but they are still too far adrift from the 3 teams at the top to really be considered a threat. They are still going to want to make some noise, though, and they can do that by taking down the teams at the top. Jhoulys Chacin (4-4, 5.77 ERA) will get the start.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

While the Padres have been better of late, I think they are going to have some trouble against the big-hitting Rockies. I like Colorado to come away with a comfortable win in this one.
