New York Mets at Washington Nationals
- When: Thursday, March 28, 2019, 1:05 PM ET
- Where: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
Two-time NL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer will get the start on Opening Day for Washington after going 18- with a fine, 2.53 ERA, but New York will counter with reigning Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom who won last season’s award despite posting what looks like a mediocre 10-9 record. DeGrom, who posted a phenomenal 1.70 ERA a year ago is simply ‘due’ for some really good luck in 2019.
Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies
- When: Thursday, March 28, 2019, 3:05 PM ET
- Where: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Right-hander Aaron Nola will get the call for Philly after going 17-6 with a solid 3.35 ERA last season, while Atlanta counters with right-hander Julio Teheran (9-9, 3.94 ERA).
While Philadelphia is playing at home in this affair, I like the reigning NL East champs to get the Opening Day upset simply because they have a more complete roster.
Chicago Cubs at Texas Rangers
- When: Thursday, March 28, 4:05 PM EST
- Where: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
Left-hander Jon Lester (`8-6, 3.32 ERA) will get the call for Chicago while Texas counters with Cole Hamels (9-12, 3.78 ERA). I’m thinking the Rangers will be favored at home in this one, but Chicago is the better team and I like the Cubbies to get the outright win in this opener.
