It is still very early in the 2019 MLB season, which means that making picks is still not particularly easy. We are yet to see very many usable trends develop just yet, which makes picking winners almost like flipping a coin. Things don’t look to be any easier in that regard this week, as we are looking at some really good match-ups. We are still waiting to see the class teams in the MLB start to separate, and it’s actually beginning to look as though some of them are going to have a tough time doing so.
We have taken a look at the week ahead to see if we can pick out some winners, so let’s get right to our top pro-baseball betting picks of the week.
Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – April 22nd Edition

Minnesota Twins at Houston Astros – MondayThe Minnesota twins closed out their week in a big way, winning 3 in a row to take the lead at the top of the AL Central. They are a bit of an odd one in that they have saved their best work for games played on the road, going 7-3 away from home this season. They will be up against a very good Houston Astros team to start the week, although Houston has lost back to back games.
That said, they are still 7-3 in their last 10 and 13-8 overall, which includes being a perfect 6-0 in their own ballpark. The Astros will eventually lose some games in their own building, but I don’t think the first one will come on Monday. I am on Houston to win this one.
Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres – TuesdayThe Seattle Mariners jumped out to a ridiculously fast start this season, but they are having a tough time maintaining that early pace and are now just 3-7 in their last 10 games. They will be on the road in the early part of the week, which may be a good thing given that they are 11-2 away from home.
It will be the San Diego Padres who will be playing host to the Mariners as they look to keep pace with the LA Dodgers in the NL West. The Padres have had some issues at home, going just 5-8, which I think opens the door for the Mariners to get the win here.
LA Dodgers at Chicago Cubs – WednesdayThis has all the makings of a great series, but it is perhaps the Wednesday game that really jumps out. What we have here is a match-up between a pair of pitchers – Walker Buehler and Cole Hamels – who are a combined 5-0 to start the season. The Dodgers have a 2 ½ game lead in the NL West and are 7-3 in their last 10 games, while also going 9-4 at home.
The Cubs are off to a slow start, but they have clawed their way back to .500 after winning 7 of their last 10 games. This is a tough one to call, but I would be looking at the UNDER.
New York Yankees at LA Angels – ThursdayThere are a few big favorites who are off to a slow start this season, but it is the Yankees who perhaps have the best excuse of them all, as they have been hammered by injuries, with Aaron Judge the latest to go down.
Despite all that, the Yankees are 11-10 and within reach of the top of the AL East. They will be on the road on Thursday to face an Angels team that is currently rooted to the cellar in the West after winning just 3 games in their last 10. Let’s take the hobbled Yankees to win here.
