Blue Jays vs Red Sox Odds & Pick – MLB Betting for Sept. 3rd

Written by on September 2, 2020

Heading into their respective Wednesday matchups, the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox had both dropped two straight while sitting in third and last place in the AL East respectively. Now, with both clubs looking to take the opener of their four-game weekend set, starting on Thursday, Sept. 3, it’s time to find out which team is offering the best betting value against their MyBookie MLB odds.

MLB Toronto Blue Jays Vs Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

Why Bet On Toronto

Toronto has split their last 10 games evenly heading into their series finale against Miami on Wednesday. Now, they’ll hand the ball to 28-year-old right-hander Taijuan Walker, who comes into this matchup fresh off an impressive outing after being acquired from Seattle just prior to the annual trade deadline. The former Mariners starter tossed 6.0 innings of shutout ball while allowing just four hits while leading the Jays to am emphatic 5-0 win over Baltimore on Saturday.

Why Bet On Boston

Boston has won four of their last six and will hand the ball to 29-year-old southpaw Martin Perez, who had been solid in limiting the opposition to three earned runs in each of his previous four starts – until getting pounded senseless the last time he took the bump. Perez gave up six earned runs on eight hits – including two home runs – in just 4.0 innings of a 10-2 loss against Boston on Saturday.

Toronto Blue Jays (18-16) at Boston Red Sox (12-24)

Starting Pitchers

  • Toronto | Taijuan Walker – R – (3-2, 3.27 ERA)
  • Boston | Martin Perez – L – (2-4, 4.58 ERA)

Prediction

While Toronto is two games above .500 and Boston is already a dozen games under .500, the Red Sox have actually scored more runs this season (165) than the Blue Jays (160). The bad news is that the BoSox have given up a whopping 225 runs while Toronto has allowed 147 runs.

More importantly, Boston is just 6-13 at home this season while Toronto has gone a decent 10-11 on the road. Taijuan Walker looked great the last time out while Boston’s Martin Perez got smacked senseless.  With that said, I like the Jays to keep their playoff hopes alive as they sit just two games behind the second place Yankees in the AL East.

Pick: Blue Jays 5 Red Sox 2

AL East News

Despite their huge addition of superstar hurler Gerrit Cole, the Yankees (20-14) are 3.5 games behind first place Tampa Bay in the AL East. More importantly, the Rays look very legitimate as they’ve scored an American League high of 191 runs. Tampa Bay has won eight of their last 10 and has showed no signs of slowing down as they ran a fantastic eighth in scoring (5.16 rpg) and an identical eighth in team ERA (3.77 rpg). The Yankees, despite their humongous payroll, haven’t been able to find the consistency they’ve been looking for although they rank a solid 10t in scoring (4.91 rpg) and 11th in team ERA (4.26).

With the 2020 campaign now over the halfway mark of its shortened 60-game season, I see no reasons to believe the Rays will falter while all of the pressure is on the Bronx Bombers to live up to their expectations to be legitimate World Series contenders. As it stands right now, I say Tampa Bay is the pick to claim the AL east title in 2020 at the very least!
