Majority of Major League teams relax COVID-19 protocols
The number of teams able to relax coronavirus protocols has jumped to 30. Since there are only 30 teams in Major League Baseball, it means every franchise can now relax COVID-19 protocols the league put into place at the start of the season.
Protocols require 85% of players and personnel on a team to have been vaccinated. All 30 teams reaching the 85% threshold is excellent news for the league, its fans, and players.
What do the relaxed protocols mean? Players mustn’t wear face masks in the dugouts and bullpens. Also, MLB won’t be as strict with regarding player mobility on road trips.
The Phillies’ much awaited implosion has happened
Philadelphia had targeted June 12 as the date to return to 100% capacity. Things have gone so well on the COVID vaccine front that the Phillies moved the date up to June 4.
Great news, but the other piece of Philly news isn’t. Although they remain within shouting distance of the NL East leading New York Mets, things aren’t looking great.
Philadelphia is 4-6 in their last 10. They’re 6-12 in their last 18. The Phillies now rank nineteenth in runs per at 4.13. The Phils rank eighteenth in team ERA at 4.31.
Odds on Padres and Rays dive
The Rays have climbed to first place in the AL East. As of June 1, Tampa Bay has a 2 games lead over the Boston Red Sox. The lead over the New York Yankees is 4.5.
The San Diego Padres are a half a game behind the Giants in the NL West. Tampa’s odds went from +1300 to+900. The Padres odds went from +700 to +550.
Tampa looks like the class of the AL East. San Diego’s march to the division is much tougher. San Francisco hasn’t gone away and the Dodgers are just 1.5 games behind the Padres.
If you’re deciding on which team between the two to back, lean towards the Rays. Tampa Bay ranks seventh in team ERA at 3.43. Tyler Glasnow has a 2.69 ERA. Tampa averages close to 5 runs per. So the Rays have also performed well at the plate.
