Padres make big moves, acquire Yu Darvish, Blake Snell and top KBO player
The San Diego Padres have struck. The team that believes they can beat the Los Angeles Dodgers and win the NL pennant made three huge moves that makes them a contender.
The Chicago Cubs, signaling that they are about to embark on a rebuild, traded ace Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini to San Diego for Zach Davies, Yeison Santana, Reggie Preciado, Owen Caissie and Ismael Mena. Darvish went 8-3 with a 2.01 ERA and a .98 WHIP. He should dominate at PetCo Park.
But the Padres didn’t start with Yu. Before trading for Darvish, San Diego acquired Blake Snell from the Padres for Luis Patino, Blake Hunt, Cole Wilcox and Francisco Mejia. Snell had a 1.20 WHIP and a 3.24 ERA.
With Snell and Darvish, the Friars have one of the most feared starting rotations in baseball. Don’t forget that Dinelson Lamet posted a 2.09 ERA and a .86 WHIP last season. Also, Mike Clevinger has ace stuff when he’s healthy.
San Diego also signed one of the best players in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), Ha-seong Kim. 25-year-old Ha-seong batted .306, knocked in 30 home runs, and batted in 111 runs for Kiwoom. He also stole 23 bases.
Kim played shortstop and third base this past season. The Padres have stars Francisco Tatis and Manny Machado at those positions. Ha-seong could probably play any position on the field, though. So don’t worry if you’re a Padres fan.
Yankees World Series odds drop +50 while Padres WS odds drop +200
The odds on the New York Yankees dropped +50 points from +600 to +550 last week. There’s no real reason why the odds on NYY dropped. Perhaps rumors that they were ready to resign D.J. LeMahieu accounts for the odds change.
In any case, New York’s odds drop pales in comparison to San Diego’s. The Padres dropped a full +200 points after they acquired Darvish and Snell and signed KBO player Kim Ha-seong.
Most analysts don’t believe the Padres have caught the Dodgers. Their minds could soon change, though. So if you want to back San Diego, do it before the bandwagoners take a seat.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
