MLB Update – Mid-May Start at the Earliest
On Monday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that the league had decided to push the start of the season to at least mid-May. That’s a positive because the NBA has targeted late June or early August for their playoffs while the NHL has yet to say when they will resume.
Other good news came from Manfred? He stated that MLB is determined to play “as many games as possible”. That’s the most positive statement from any of the big 3 sports leagues affected by the coronavirus pandemic so far.
Now that we can all smile some, let’s get to MLB prop bet analysis and free picks!
Most Regular Season Home Runs
Top Chalk Pick: Mike Trout +900
Top Underdog Pick: Giancarlo Stanton +2000
The L.A. Angels signed Anthony Rendon. So, now, the Halos can mix and match their batting line-ups. In other words, they can protect Trout and force pitchers to throw to him. That’s never happened in Mike Trout’s career. Expect a home run explosion from the best player in baseball.
In 2019, New York Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton had 59 at-bats. Stanton was listed as day-to-day with a hurt calf. Because of the late start to the season, Giancarlo should be ready to roll. He figures to bat after or right before Aaron Judge. Either way, Stanton has a big shot to grab the home run king crown if he can stay healthy.
2020 AL Cy Young Award
Top Chalk Pick: Gerrit Cole +240
Top Underdog Pick: Zack Greinke +2000
Cole changed zip codes from Houston to New York. But he’ll benefit from a better bullpen and just as strong rotation. Most important? Gerrit stays in the American League where he tore it up as an Astro last season.
Greinke, who will move into the second slot in the rotation after Cole’s departure, threw well in the playoffs. Zach returns to the American League after playing for the Dodgers and D’Backs in the NL. He can get it done.
2020 AL MVP
Top Pick: Mike Trout +100
Trout’s the best player in baseball. It’s not even close. Now that Rendon is a Halo, Mike’s almost a lock to win the AL MVP.
2020 NL Cy Young Award
Top Chalk Pick: Walker Buehler +500
Top Underdog Pick: Mike Soroka +2200
Buehler is the Dodgers’ most consistent starting pitcher. He didn’t look great during spring training but the extra month should allow him to get it together. He figures to become a Dodgers’ ace along with Clayton Kershaw this season.
Braves’ pitcher Mike Soroka went 13-4 with a 2.68 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. If he improves at all, he could dominate in every way imaginable. His stuff is that good.
2020 NL MVP
Top Pick: Christian Yelich +700
Mookie, the newest Dodger, offers +350 odds. He’s the chalk. But Yelich is much preferred. Christian not only offers better odds but he hit .329 and had 44 home runs and 97 RBIs in just 130 games played. The Milwaukee Brewer looks like a solid NL MVP play.
2020 AL Pennant
Top Pick: New York Yankees +150
Sure, they’re the chalk, but can you think of a better team? The Yankees’ batting lineup is loaded, the Yanks have one of the top bullpens in baseball, and Gerrit Cole leads a solid starting rotation. Yankees rock their AL rivals.
2020 NL Pennant
Top Pick: L.A. Dodgers +100
The Dodgers acquired Mookie Betts and David Price from the Boston Red Sox. It means the top 3 starters in the Dodgers rotation are Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and Price. Betts is a favorite to win the NL MVP while the rest of the batting lineup dominated last season. The lone question is whether closer Kenley Jansen can get it done.
