Dodgers vs Brewers: Find the latest Odds & Predict the score with our in-depth Analysis

It’s a potential National League playoff preview on Monday night in a series opener as the West Division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers also are expecting the return of All-Star and former AL MVP Mookie Betts from a long injury absence. They are short favorites on the MLB odds according to MyBookie Sportsbook.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles pitcher River Ryan, a promising rookie, will miss the rest of the season due to an elbow injury, adding to the team’s already troubled rotation. Despite a setback at the start of the year, Ryan had impressive performances in the minor leagues and in his first few starts in the majors. The Dodgers organization and fans had high hopes for the 25-year-old, who was called up for his debut in July. LA has called up Landon Knack to replace him.

Mookie Betts

All-Star and former league MVP Betts is expected to be activated off the injured list and in the lineup Monday. Betts moved from right field to a middle infield role before landing on the injured list due to a left-hand fracture in June. He will be moved back to right field, per manager Dave Roberts, who said that he and Mookie had a conversation about the decision, citing Betts’ comfort level as well as the improved performance of Gavin Lux as part of the reasoning – Lux has been hitting well since the All-Star break with the sixth-highest batting average in MLB over that span.

Mookie is also a six-time Gold Glove winner in the outfield.

Ohtani & Hernández

Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández are the only pair of teammates in Major League Baseball with 25+ doubles and 25+ home runs this year. Ohtani remains the big favorite to win NL MVP. He took over at leadoff when Betts went down and apparently will stay there with Mookie hitting second.

Clayton Kershaw on the Hill

It’s future Hall of Fame lefty Kershaw on the mound here. Kershaw (0-2) took the loss last Tuesday against the Phillies, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings. He blanked them into the fifth before Kyle Schwarber plated the game’s first run and subsequently ended Kershaw’s night.

Kershaw has yet to reach five innings in any of his three starts thus far despite throwing 83 and 81 pitches his last two times out, but he mentioned after the game he thought Tuesday’s outing was a good building block. Kershaw seems to be trending in the right direction in terms of building up his stamina.

Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline -107

Milwaukee had a five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday in a 4-3 home loss as the Brewers were trying to get a season high 19 games over .500. It was the longest hitting streak of his career. Milwaukee had lost four straight home series before taking two of three vs. the Reds.

Trevor Megill

Former Brewers closer Megill is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Monday and will head out on a rehab assignment if all goes.

Rob Zastryzny

Fellow reliever Zastryzny began a rehab assignment on Friday. Before being deactivated July 26 due to left elbow tendinitis, Zastryzny made nine appearances for the Brewers and posted a 1.17 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 5:1 K:BB across 7.2 innings. On Sunday, the Brewers put Brewers lefty reliever Hob Milner on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 9, with a left shoulder impingement.

Milner is going to be out of action for at least two weeks while recovering from his shoulder trouble. He ranks second on the team in relief innings, and his underlying numbers (3.26 SIERA, 3.27 xERA) are much better than his 4.92 ERA. The southpaw has been especially dominant against left-handed batters (23:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio).

Bryan Hudson

Yet another reliever, lefty Hudson, could be activated Monday. A first-half surprise for the Brewers at 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA, Hudson spent the past two weeks recovering from a left oblique injury, including three appearances in the minors. His most recent outing on Saturday was abbreviated to 2/3 of an inning, so he would be ready to rejoin Milwaukee’s active roster as soon as Monday if the Brewers choose.

Freddy Peralta on the Hill

It’s righty Peralta on the mound Monday. Peralta (7-6) allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings, earning the win over Atlanta last Wednesday. Atlanta started hot with two runs in the first inning and Austin Riley added a two-run home run in the fifth, but Milwaukee was able to take the lead back before Nick Mears took over for Peralta in the bottom of the sixth.

The team is 14-9 in his starts and he has nine quality starts. Opponents are batting .207 off him this year.

Peralta is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in 5 career starts against the Dodgers, including a no-decision on July 6 at Dodgers Stadium in which he allowed three runs in only four innings. Milwaukee lost 5-3.
