Why Bet on Cleveland?

The Indians split four games at the Yankees over the weekend. Francisco Lindor went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday’s 8-4 win to continue his hot play of late. Lindor struck off Nestor Cortez Jr. in the fourth inning. The All-Star shortstop has now collected hits in nine of his last 10 games. For the overall season, he is slashing .299/.354/.518 with 21 home runs, 53 RBI, 73 runs scored and 18 steals over 442 at-bats.

The Indians have won 16 of their last 21 road games and 24 of 36 to sit 35-25 away from Progressive Field this season, the 4th-best road win percentage in the AL and 5th-best in the Majors. Since the start of June, Cleveland holds the best road win percentage in the Majors and its 22 road wins in that stretch are 4th-most behind Atlanta, San Francisco and Tampa Bay. Cleveland ranks 2nd in the Majors in road ERA in 2019 at 3.74 behind only Tampa Bay (3.60).

It’s All-Star Game MVP Shane Bieber for the Tribe. Bieber (12-5) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven across six innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox. Both of the runs Bieber allowed came in the third inning on back-to-back home runs. He was solid otherwise, and he ended the start on a strong note by retiring eight of the last nine batters he faced. Bieber has pitched exceptionally well across his last five starts, allowing only eight earned runs in 38 innings while racking up a 44:5 K:BB. He’ll look to further improve his 3.27 ERA and 1.01 WHIP on Tuesday.

Bieber looks to continue his impressive run in the series opener at Citi Field against the Mets. He is 3-2 with a 1.89 ERA in his past five starts, striking out 44 batters in 38 innings. Bieber will be making his first career start against the Mets. In five career Interleague starts, Bieber is 2-2 with a 7.25 ERA (18ER/22.1IP). He has an 8-2 record with a 2.77 ERA (24ER/78.0IP), 12 walks and 94 strikeouts in 12 appearances and 11 starts on the road this season.

Why Bet on NY Mets?

New York took two of three in Kansas City over the weekend. Amed Rosario went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Sunday’s easy win. The 23-year-old shortstop has been blistering-hot in the second half, hitting .369 (50-for-136) with 22 runs scored, three home runs, 11 RBI and five steals in 33 games since the All-Star break.

Pete Alonso went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored Sunday. Alonso walloped a solo homer — his 40th round-tripper of the season — in the ninth inning off Royals reliever Jacob Barnes to join Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge as the only hitter to record a 40-homer rookie campaign in the last two decades. The 24-year-old owns a.271/.375/.604 triple-slash line with 76 runs scored and 95 RBIs. He’s the clear front-runner to take home the National League’s Rookie of the Year award. Only six National League rookies have had more RBIs in a season, including Albert Pujols (130), Ryan Zimmerman (110), Kris Bryant (99), Troy Tulowitzki (99), Ryan Braun (97) and Cody Bellinger (97).

Indians vs Mets is going to be a close one.

It’s lefty Steven Matz (7-7) for New York. Matz gave up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five through six innings in a no-decision against the Braves on Wednesday. Matz ran into a little trouble in the second frame, but he didn’t allow a baserunner otherwise. In an odd move, Matz was removed 79 pitches into a nice performance after hitting for himself in the top of the seventh inning. The 28-year-old has a 4.33 ERA and 109 strikeouts through 22 starts this season.

After owning a 4.95 ERA (44 earned runs/88.0 innings) in his first 16 starts this season, Matz has since sported a 2-1 record with a 3.06 ERA (12 earned runs/35.1 innings) in six starts since July 16, and earning four quality starts in that span. This will be Matz’s second career start vs. the Indians. He tossed 7.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out nine in a 6-0 Mets win on April 17, 2016 at Progressive Field.
