Just one interleague game on Thursday’s MLB schedule, and it’s a matinee from Detroit between the Marlins and Tigers. Miami will add the designated hitter in the AL park, but the Tigers are favored on the MLB betting lines.

Why Bet on Miami?
Sergio Romo allowed a pair of unearned runs in the ninth inning Tuesday, suffering a blown save against the Tigers. Protecting a two-run lead, Romo was affected by bad defense as neither of the runs were earned when the dust settled. Still, he’s now allowed runs in four of his last six outings but Tuesday was his first blown save of the year. He now owns a 5.06 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 16 innings.
Curtis Granderson, a third-round pick by the Tigers in 2002, has 47 home runs at Comerica Park – third-most among active players, behind Miguel Cabrera (169) and J.D. Martinez (58). Granderson also ranks fifth in hits (346) and sixth in RBI (162). Neil Walker owns a career .308 average with four doubles, a triple, seven home runs, and 23 RBI in 31 games against Detroit. Has hit .343 at Comerica Park, including a two-homer game on July 1, 2015 w/Pittsburgh. Granderson’s 42 HR in Interleague play rank sixth-most among active players, trailing Albert Pujols (64), Miguel Cabrera (54), Edwin Encarnacion (52), Jose Bautista (50), and Nelson Cruz (45).
It took nine starts for Miami’s Trevor Richards (1-5, 4.44) to get his first win of the season. Richards got it in last Friday’s 8-6 victory over the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 6.1 innings while striking out four. The right-hander wasn’t particularly sharp, throwing 55 of 88 pitches for strikes and serving up two homers, but an uncharacteristic burst of offense from Miami’s bats finally got Richards in the win column.
Richards now seeks his first away win. He’s 0-2 (5.40) in three road starts. Hitters are hitting .181 off Richards’ changeup, a pitch on which he has a 34.6 swinging miss percentage.

Why Bet on Detroit?
The Tigers are without shortstop Jordy Mercer, who is on the injured list. Mercer (quad) is still feeling soreness while running. Mercer is able to take infield and batting practice with no issues, but when he runs straight ahead his right quad still bothers him. “It’s frustrating, to say the least,” Mercer said. Ronny Rodriguez will continue to fill in at shortstop.
As of Wednesday, Detroit is 1-4 in interleague play this season and has an all-time record of 213-195 vs. National League opponents. Over the last 13 seasons (since 2006), the Tigers are 142-109 in IL play, which ranks fifth among all Major League teams over that stretch.
Tigers lefty Matt Boyd allowed four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks across 6.1 innings while taking the loss against the Athletics on Saturday. The 28-year-old struck out at least eight batters for the third time in his last five outings, but the long ball hurt him once again. After yielding only two homers in his first seven starts, Boyd has tossed up five bombs in his last 16.1 innings. He is 4-4 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 60.2 innings this season.
Boyd’s stellar opening month has given way to recent struggles, thanks in large part to the long ball. After holding opponents to two home runs in 44 1/3 innings over his first seven starts, he has allowed five homers in his last three outings.
