New York Vs Washington MLB Odds Analysis

Written by on June 28, 2016

With more than half the MLB season still to be played, it would be foolish to come out now and say that one division or another as already been decided. We have seen some monumental collapses over the years, and seemingly long NFL betting odds come up when a team puts together a strong second half to charge back and steal a division crown. The one division that looks as though it might well go all the way down to the wire is the NL East, where the NY Mets and Washington Nationals are once again squaring off to show as the dominant team. It is the Nationals who have the edge right now, but a 3.5 game lead is not one that cannot be overhauled in a relatively short period of time. These two teams are involved in a 3-games series in Washington right now, and the final game of that one will go on Wednesday night.

Why bet on the New York Mets

The Mets (40-35) are going to have to win this series the hard way after losing the opening game 11-4. What made the defeat all the more galling was that their ace, Noah Syndergaard, was on the mound. The big man had a very uncharacteristic night on the mound, seeing his season record slip to 8-3. This loss takes the Mets to 4-6 in their last 10 games, which is more than a little surprising when you consider that 7 of those 10 games cam against the hapless Atlanta Braves. Instead of making a move on the struggling Nats, the Mets somehow managed to go just 2-5 in those games. They will have another good man on the mound on Wednesday, with Steven Matz (7-3, 3.29 ERA) scheduled to start.

Why bet on the Washington Nationals

After going on a dismal run that saw them lose 7-straight games, it now looks as though the Washington Nationals (45-32) might be ready to turn things around. The win in the opening game of the series against the Mets takes the Nats win streak to a modest 2 games, but the fact that they looked so good offensively against one of the best pitchers in the game right now clearly showed that a breakout may be on the cards. If they can get the offense rolling the way the pitching staff has been all season long, Washington are going to have nothing to worry about. Max Scherzer (8-5, 3.52 ERA) will be on the mound for the Nationals.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

As you would expect from these two teams, we are going to get another great pitching match-up, but I believe that this one falls slightly in the favor of the Washington Nationals. I like them to win in a close one.
