Top MLB Picks of the Week – September 24th Edition

Written by on September 24, 2018

The Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on their sixth straight NL West division title. The New York Yankees are in a dogfight for the wild card berth in the American League – and oh yeah, the defending World Series champion Houston Astros just keep on rolling as they get set for the upcoming postseason and the chance to defend their title. With the 2018 MLB regular season winding down and the start of the playoffs quickly approaching, it’s time for another round of MLB Betting picks of the week. Now, let’s get to them.

Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – September 24th Edition

LA Dodgers (87-69) at Arizona Diamondbacks (79-77)

Heading into their series opener on Monday night, the Dodgers have won eight of their last 10 games and currently are 1.5 games up on Colorado in the race for first place in the NL West. Arizona is struggling mightily at the worst time possible, having gone 2-8 over its last 10 games. This series is offering MLB bettors everywhere an absolute ton of value simply because these teams are heading in polar opposite directions and the Dodgers are looking to mash the pedal to the metal to pull off their sixth straight division title. Staff ace lefty Clayton Kershaw gets the ball in the opener on Monday night, but really, I’m thinking a sweep might be in order for the D-Backs in this series despite the fact that they’re at home. L.A. is ranked a stellar second in team ERA (3.39) and they’ve gone a blistering 20-8 in their last 28 games, not to mention their huge edge in quality pitching will be the difference in this series. L.A. has won three straight in this divisional rivalry by recording a trio of identical 3-2 wins to close out August and open September.

Pick: L.A. for the Sweep

Houston Astros (98-57) at Toronto Bluejays (71-85)

The Astros have won three straight heading into the new week and seven of their last 10 games overall to stay 4.5 games in front of second place Oakland in the AL West. Toronto has gone 6-4 over their last 10 games heading into their series opener against Houston on Monday night. This series is also offering a ton of value, seeing as how the defending World Series champion Astros are elite at everything and Toronto is mediocre offensively and awful defensively. Houston should be one of your MLB Betting Picks of the Week. The Astros are ranked a stellar fourth in scoring (4.97 rpg), fifth in team batting average (.257) and 10th in home runs with 196. Houston also ranks first in team ERA and first in almost every meaningful defensive statistical category. Conversely, Toronto ranks a modest 17th in scoring (4.41 rpg) but just 27th in team ERA (4.85). Houston could get the series sweep with Dallas Keuchel on the mound on Monday night and Gerrit Cole getting the start on Wednesday. Pick: Houston For the Sweep

New York Yankees (95-60) at Tampa Bay Rays (87-68)

The Yankees are just 5-5 over their last 10 games, they’ve also gone 4-1 over their last five. Tampa Bay has gone 7-3 over their last 10. New York has not named a starter for any of the games in this series while Tampa Bay will be going with Diego Castillo in the opener on Monday night. The Yankees are ranked a stellar second in scoring (5.15 rpg) and first in home runs (251) while also ranking 10th in team ERA (3.77). Tampa Bay does rank a stupendous third in team ERA (3.63) and that means the Rays will have more than a chance of either winning this series or sweeping New York. Pick: Tampa Bay Takes Series 2-1
