2017 MLB Betting Predictions

Top MLB Betting Predictions Last Weeks Regular Season

Written by on August 15, 2017

With about a month and a half to go in the 2017 MLB regular season, it has become very clear who the main contenders are for the World Series. Things can change dramatically during the final few weeks, though, as history has shown us that this is the time when the pressure can suddenly start to become too much for the teams challenging for the playoffs. Rather than looking ahead to the postseason, we thought it would be fun to make a few predictions and review the latest betting odds for the final weeks of the MLB season. Who will rise, which teams will fall, and which players will be looking at major awards once this season is all said and done?

Here’s a Closer Look at the Top MLB Betting Predictions Last Weeks Regular Season

The LA Dodgers Beat the Modern Day Record for Wins in a Single Season

Let’s get things rolling with what may be the boldest prediction of the lot. The 1906 Cubs hold the record for most wins in a season at 136, but that really doesn’t equate to the modern game. The best record in this era is the 116 wins posted by the Seattle Mariners in 2001. I believe that the Dodgers can surpass that mark, which would mean winning 34 more games before the season ends. They would need to win at a 75% clip from here on out. Since the start of the second half, this team is 22-5, which translates to an 81% win rate, so it’s definitely possible for them.

MLB Picks and Winning Favorites – August 15

The Cubs Hang On and Win the NL Central

Before the MLB betting season began, the talk was all about how many games over the 100-win mark the World Champions would go this season. It looks as though they are not going to even get close to the century mark, and there are even doubts as to whether they can win the division. They are clinging to a game and a half lead right now, and I believe that they are going to do just enough to hang on for the win.

The NL West Will Have 3 Teams in the Postseason

The Dodgers clinching the NL West is a mere formality now, as they are not about to give up a 17-5-game lead at this stage of the season. I believe that the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks will be the two teams that will be competing in the Wild Card game, as no other team has really taken a serious run at those spots. There have been a few teams that have shown little flashes, but no-one has been able to consistently put together a run to close the gap that these two have opened up in the Wild Card race.

The Yankees and Angels Will be the MLB Betting AL Wild Card Teams

The Yankees are currently in the first Wild Card spot, which I believe is where they will stay, as the Red Sox are starting to open things up in the East. As far as the second NL Wild Card spot goes, things are a good deal crazier, as there are currently 8 teams within 3.5 games of that coveted spot. If you are serious about making a playoff run, this is the stage of the season when you need to be stringing together some wins, and that is exactly what the LA Angels are doing. They are a half game up in the final spot, and I think they are going to be able to win enough games down the stretch to hold on, and perhaps even pass the Yankees.

Sale and Scherzer Win the Cy Young

As far as the American League Cy Young award goes, I believe that Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox is an MLB betting lock right now. As far as the American League Cy Young award goes, I believe that Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox is a lock right now. He is currently with the tops in wins, the best ERA, and far and away the most K’s of any other pitcher in the running. Over in the NL, the top choice would appear to be Clayton Kershaw but I am going with Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals. He has pitched more innings than any of the other contenders, and also has more K’s. He trails Kershaw in ERA, but not by a huge margin.
