With 15 teams in both the American and National League, there always has to be at least one interleague series going. The lone such matchup this weekend is Milwaukee Brewers at Texas Rangers. The Rangers will lose the designated hitter and be solid MLB Betting underdogs.

Why Bet on Texas?
Texas is 8-5 in all-time Interleague meetings against the Brewers. The teams last met in 2016, with Texas winning 2 of 3 in Arlington in the final week of the regular season. This will be just Texas’ 3rd-ever trip to Miller Park (last 5/7-8/13, 1-1). Dating back to the Brewers’ American League days, they lead all-time series 168-142.
This was to be Adrian Sampson’s start, but he has been moved the bullpen. Sampson has bounced between the rotation and the bullpen this season, starting 15 games and appearing in another 10 in relief. He hasn’t had too much success overall, recording a 5.42 ERA and 1.49 WHIP while striking out just 17.6 percent of opposing batters.
So the start will to go lefty Kolby Allard. The Braves traded Allard to the Rangers for right-handed reliever Chris Martin on July 30. Since then, Allard has made one start, Aug. 3 for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He pitched five innings, allowing four hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. For Atlanta’s Triple-A team this season, Allard was 7-5 with a 4.17 ERA. Opposing batters hit .284 against him, and he gave up 15 home runs in 110 innings pitched.
Allard, a first-round draft choice in 2015, once was considered a top prospect for the Braves. He went 1-1 with a 12.38 ERA in three appearances with the Braves last season. He has a big-league WHIP of 2.88, and opposing batters are hitting. 438 against him. Allard features a fastball considered average, in the 89-93 mph range.
“We made a trade for this kid and we want to see what he’s got. We think he can help us win. We think he can provide some spark,” Rangers manager Chris Woodward said.
The Rangers are choosing Allard over Joe Palumbo, whose progress has been slowed this summer by ankle issues, and Brock Burke, who is only now getting his workload built back up following injuries.

Why Bet on Milwaukee?
The Brewers stayed close on the tail of the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs early this week with a three-game sweep in Pittsburgh to conclude a long road trip. However, All-Star outfielder and reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich didn’t play either Tuesday or Wednesday. Yelich told reporters that he could “feel something in his back” during Monday’s game against the Pirates and said he won’t return until it’s 100 percent. In addition, fellow outfielder Lorenzo Cain didn’t start Wednesday. He was hoping to play after being removed on Tuesday, but after fouling a ball off his knee. Cain seems likely to go here.
It’s lefty Gio Gonzalez (2-1) for the Brewers. Gonzalez (shoulder) didn’t factor into the decision in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 4.1 innings while striking out four. The veteran returned from the injured list and only permitted a second-inning run on a Javier Baez triple and a wild pitch. He was removed after 71 pitches (43 strikes). He’ll take a 3.35 ERA and 40:13 K:BB over 45.2 innings into Friday.
This is Gonzalez’s 10th start of the year and just one of them so far have been quality because he has gone at least six innings just once. He signed as a free agent with Milwaukee on 4/27. Gonzalez signed as a free agent with the Yankees on 3/19 but was released on 4/22. He made 3 starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre while in the Yankees organization, going 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA (15ip, 19h, 10r, 10er, 6bb, 19k, 1hr).
In his career at Miller Park, Gonzalez is 4-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 12 starts (64.2ip, 29er). He is 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in 3 starts this season (16.2ip, 6er).
