MLB Regular Season Awards – AL Cy Young Winner Odds

Written by on April 8, 2020

We are now sitting at about a full month without sports in our lives, other than the replays from past games that are popping up on the networks, and it is likely going to be a little while longer before we get back to the action. We could choose to sit and stew about the current situation, or we could choose to look ahead and take a look at how things might play out once we get back to the business of professional sports. The MLB season was suspended before it even had a chance to start, but we still have a decent idea about which teams will be competing when we do get rolling again. With that in mind, we are going to talk about the individual awards and how they might go this coming season, so let’s take a look at the favorites to win the AL Cy Young Award.

MLB Regular Season Awards – AL Cy Young Winner Odds

Gerrit Cole (+240)

In 4 put of 5 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cole managed double-digit wins, with 19 wins being his best total. In his 2 seasons with the Houston Astros, Cole has been nothing short of fantastic, going 15-2 in 2018 and 20-5 last season. His strikeout numbers took a major leap last season, with Cole among the favorites to win the Cy Young, which eventually went to Justin Verlander. The Astros look to be strong again this coming season, so look for Cole to once again be dominant.

Chris Sale (+450)

If you haven’t yet heard the news, please be aware that Chris sale will not be taking part in baseball any time this season, as he has just recently undergone Tommy John surgery. It goes without saying that he will be taken off the betting board sooner rather than later.

Justin Verlander (+500)

With 21 wins and 300 strikeouts last season, Verlander won the second Cy Young Award of his illustrious career. While showing absolutely zero sign of slowing down, it is worth remembering that Verlander is now 37 years old, which is something that needs to be taken into account when considering putting money on him winning back to back Cy Young’s. In fact, you need to go all the way back to 2000 to find the last time an AL pitcher won the award in consecutive seasons, with Pedro Martinez doing it back then.

Shane Bieber (+800)

Given that Chris Sale will soon come off the board, you are going to see the odds for Shane Bieber begin to shorten, so now might be the time to get in on the action. This coming season will be the third in the MLB for Bieber, and given what we have seen from him to this point, there is a very good reason to believe that he will be among the AL Cy Young nominees when this season is said and done. He improved from 11 to 15 wins in his second season and more than doubled the number of strikeouts thrown in his rookie season in 2019. He also shaved a run and a half off his ERA, so if we see similar steps forward this season, I think he wins the Cy Young.
