We are at the stage of the MLB season where talking about the playoffs seems somewhat ridiculous. That said, it’s still fun to look at the current standings and try to figure out how things might play out, knowing full well that injuries and trades will change everything you think you know about the current season. There is, of course, still an awful long way to go in the season, but it already looks as though the playoff race in the National League is going to be fun to watch.
The Milwaukee Brewers are holding on to the first Wild Card spot quite comfortably, but after that, there are 5 teams within a single game of the second of those available spots. We will likely start to see some separation, but it’s fun to watch right now.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the 5 teams in that hunt and they will be up against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, with the Rockies looking to get back in it. Colorado took the opening game in this series and they are favored by 1 ½ in this one. The run total has been set at 8 ½.

Twins vs Angels MLB Lines & Pick for Wednesday Night
Why bet on the Colorado Rockies?
The Rockies were considered to be one of the favorites to be among the playoff teams in the National League this season, but things have not gone as expected thus far. The Rockies are sitting at 21-25 on the season, which has them 9 ½ games off the pace in the NL West. They got this week off to a nice start with a 5-0 win over the Pirates on Tuesday night, but they are still just 5-5 in their last 10 games, which is not helping them close that gap in the race for the division lead.
Colorado started the season well on the road, but they have since fallen to 12-14, which is still 3 wins better than what they have managed at home. The Rockies have covered the spread in 7 of their last 10 games and are 4-4 ATS as a road favorite. It will be Jon Gray (3-4, 4.73 ERA) who starts this one.

Why bet on the Pittsburgh Pirates?
Like the Rockies, the Pittsburgh Pirates were expected to live or die by their pitching. Things certainly went well in that regard in the early going, but it has not been so great for the Pirates of late. Further compounding the issue is the fact that the Pirates have an incredibly anemic offense, meaning there is very little margin for error on the defensive side of things.
Despite their issues, the Pirates are still 24-21 on the season and are just 3 ½ games out of first in the NL Central. They did lose the opener to the Rockies in this series, but they have still managed to win 6 of their last 10 games and are 2-1 ATS as a home dog. It looks as though Montana DuRapau (0-0, 1.35 ERA) will get the start.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Rockies vs Pirates
With the loss to the Rockies on Monday, the Pirates are a game below .500 at home at 9-10. That aside, I still think that they bounce back and get the win on Wednesday night in a high-scoring game.
Score: Colorado Rockies 4 – Pittsburgh Pirates 6
