Rockies vs Cubs MLB Betting Lines, Analysis & Preview

Written by on June 7, 2019

We have talked in the past about how difficult it is for any team to win on a consistent basis over the course of a 162-game MLB season. Every team, no matter how poor they are, is going to hit at least one streak where they suddenly can’t seem to lose. What is crazy about all of this is that when a positive run comes to an end, it can often signal the start of a losing skid, such is the wild nature of life in major league baseball.

Prior to the start of the series between the Colorado Rockies and the Chicago Cubs, there was no team in the league hotter than the Rockies. They went on the road to Chicago on a real high, set to face a team that was hitting a rough patch, but this series has not gone according to plan for Colorado. The Cubs will head into the final game of the series looking to finish the sweep after winning the first two. The Cubs are favored by 1 ½, with the run total for this one set at 8 ½.

Why bet on the Colorado Rockies?

Prior to hitting the road to face the Cubs, the Rockies were on a run that saw them reel off 8 straight wins. That took them to 31-27 on the season, lifting them all the way up to the #2 spot in the NL West. They are still there now, but back to back losses to the Cubs have them sitting 11 ½ games off the pace being set by the LA Dodgers. Going on this current losing skid is probably not that surprising given that the Rockies are 4 games below .500 at 13-17 SU on the road.

While the Rockies have not been a great SU pick playing away from home, they have been very good against the spread, going 14-7 ATS when in as a road dog. Peter Lambert will be on the mound for the first time this season on Thursday afternoon.

Why bet on the Chicago Cubs?

Should you bet on the Cubs on Thursday night?

Prior to this series, the Cubs were not on a particularly good run of form. They had even surrendered the lead in the NL Central to the Milwaukee Brewers, but they have turned things around and have now recaptured the lead. The Cubs are sitting at the top with a 34-26 record after winning 3 straight games, a run that has them now up on the Brewers by a single game.

Where this team has been excellent this season is in their own ballpark, where they are a very impressive 21-10. Things have not been quite as one-side for the Cubs as a home favorite against the spread, as they are 13-13 ATS in those games. Jose Quintana (4-4, 3.78 ERA) will start for the Cubs.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction for Rockies vs Cubs

This is a tough one to handicap given that we don’t really know what to expect from the Colorado Rockies starting pitcher. With that in mind, I’m going to need to give the nod to the Cubs, who I think will complete the sweep with a win.
