We are very quickly closing in on the halfway point of the MLB season and we have a handful of teams who have separated themselves from the pack. The easy thing to do now would be to declare some division races to be over, but if you have paid attention to baseball in previous years, you will be well aware that the second half can bring with it some monumental shifts. There are a lot of teams out there who are just one or two moves away from putting themselves over the top. With that in mind, the teams that appear to be out of it in the division race need to keep on winning and doing their part to get back into the race.
This is particularly true in the NL West, where the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks are both swimming in the wake of the LA Dodgers. Both are looking at a double-digit deficit, but they are also both very much in the playoff picture in the Wild Card. This is an important series in several ways, and it is the Diamondbacks who are favored by 1 ½ in the opener. The run total for this one has been set at 10.

Why bet on the Colorado Rockies?
A lot of folks, myself included, believed that the Colorado Rockies would be the team challenging the Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West. It hasn’t quite panned out that way, with the Rockies getting their season off to a brutal start. They have righted the ship somewhat to now be sitting in the #2 spot in the division with a 37-34 record, 10 games off the pace being set by the division-leading LA Dodgers.
The Rockies come into this one having gone 5-5 in their last 10 games but given that they are 5-2 SU versus the Diamondbacks in previous meetings this season, they might well be looking forward to this road trip. As a road do, Colorado is a very healthy 16-9 ATS. It will be Antonio Senzatela (5-5, 5.48 ERA) on the mound for the Rockies.

Why bet on the Arizona Diamondbacks?
Any team about to head to their own ballpark for a 9-game homestand would probably be very pleased, but I’m not so sure that will be the case for the Arizona Diamondbacks. While they have thrived on the road with a 24-19 record, they have stumbled all too often at home, going just 14-16 in their own ballpark.
Add that to the fact that they have just 2 wins in 7 attempts this season versus the Rockies and you have some legitimate concerns about their ability to get the job done here. Given their home record, it is perhaps not a huge surprise to see that they are 7-8 ATS as a home favorite this season. They will have Merrill Kelly (7-6, 3.73 ERA) on the mound on Tuesday night.
