It’s the time of the year in the MLB when every team in the league needs to start making some serious decisions. Yes, the trade deadline is almost upon us, with a whole slew of moves ready to hit the trade board. Some will be minor tweaks designed to fill some perceived holes, while others will be major trades that could potentially put a team over the top in their hunt for playoff supremacy.
There are probably going to be a couple of teams who stand pat and refuse to make a move, or who decide to make some minor tweaks to strengthen their bench. It’s tough to know who will do what and which players will land where, but I believe that the New York Yankees will be one of the teams doing very little at the deadline. They look to be totally stacked and have a very nice balance, so why mess with that? They have built up a solid lead in the AL East and will have an interleague series at home this weekend versus the Colorado Rockies. The Yankees are favored by 1 ½ on Friday, with the run total set at 11 ½.

Why bet on the Colorado Rockies?
Prior to the start of the season, I had the Colorado Rockies as the team most likely to offer up a serious challenge to the LA Dodgers in the West. That is a pick that has blown up in my face almost from the off. Colorado saw their season get off to a brutal start, and while they were able to turn things around for a moment in the first half, their pitching and defensive frailties have finally come home to roost.
The Rockies now sit at 46-50 on the season, which includes being a less than stellar 20-26 on the road. They are coming off a 4-game sweep at the hands of the San Francisco Giants and are now just 2-8 in their last 10 games. That said, they are just 4 games out of the Wild Card, so all is not yet lost. They will have Kyle Freeland (2-6, 7.39 ERA) on the mound for this one.

Why bet on the New York Yankees?
The Yankees are coming off another winning series, with their latest victory being a little bigger than most. They just took 3 of 4 from the Tampa Bay Rays, a series win that now means that the Yankees have an 8-game lead in the AL East. Their overall record of 62-33 is the best in baseball, while their dominance at home is also off the charts.
In games played in Yankee Stadium, New York have compiled a 36-16 record, but it’s also good news for those of you who have routinely played the Yankees against the spread, as they are a stellar 32-20 ATS at home. They will have JA Happ (7-5, 4.93 ERA) starting this one as they look to keep the wins coming.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
As mentioned earlier, Colorado has made a habit of surrendering a ton of runs, which is not what you want to hear when you are about to go against one of the most potent offenses in the MLB. This should be a comfortable win for the Yankees.
